It's amazing how much trouble you have seeing how badly you owned yourself in the debate. A true testament to your intelligence. "I want to evaluate 1981 but I have never seen a very well known perenially ranked fighter of that time who also was a world champion" If I said "1997 sucked!" and then admitted I had never seen Johnny Tapia fight, I would deservedly be laughed at for all eternity People who KNOW boxing, know all the notable players from whatever eras they are most familiar with... Like I said in the 1981 thread when I clowned your sorry ass, I did not throw a relatively obscure lower end top ten fighter at you... I didn't say Tony Baltazar or Bruce Finch or Pat Ford... I hit you with a top 5 140, year after year guy who fought practically everybody and held a world title, an easy guy to be familiar with if you know the era at all. I was testing you and you fucking failed... miserably.
oh my god, you are incredibly delusional, I can hardly even believe it. no one reading this would say "yeah, that mikE guy is really making a strong case for himself here"
Others could have joined in. Broadway made a nostalgic, bullshit claim...a la you...and didn't back it up. I don't even know if I would stick up for 2011 if someone had formulated an argument. It's like some stupid twit arguing that the the 1975 Steelers are better than the 2011 Packers because they had bigger names...and then your dumbass coming in and asking about Rocky Bleier.
only a complete idiot woould think that analogy fits here you are too stupid to even understand what is being said to you
It's not about names, it's about the quality of the fighters Sugar Ray Leonard doesn't piss all over Amir Khan because he is more famous, he pisses all over him because he is 100 times better you want to debate 1981 vs. 2011, right? In order to debate those two things, it would seem reasonable that you would have a firm, practical familiarity with each era... or else, how could you be fair? clearly, you are NOT familiar enough with one fo these two era (1981) to be able to objectively measure them it's as simple as that
There are others on this board. You haven't stated where your buddy Sauol Mamby fits into the 1981 pecking order. You haven't demonstrated your knowledge of 2011 or 1981, for that matter, yet, either. That has nothing to do with formulating a cohesive starting point. Not one of you dimwits has attempted to formulate a starting point. You bitch out. As usual. Now go find a post where you said Khan would EASILY beat Judah before the fight. Strawman Khan vs Leonard now? Pathetic.
:laugh11:jesus, it's pointless you are, without doubt, the dumbest person I have ever encountered on the Internet. It's a landslide
Nope. You haven't proven you know remotely enough about the era in question to be worth getting into an extended discussion with. You really are the worst poster here. It's amazing to me how some folks who don't know shit like to run their mouths as if they know something.
Reading mikE's endless posts actually make me look back fondly to the "Jeff Chandler was probably some white guy" days on the forum. mikE makes wRONg King and Kid Dynamite look like experts.
You really are an idiot. And your complete lack of knowledge of the 80's disqualifies you from having any sort of informed opinion. And calling my post "bullshit nostalgia" shows how little you know about boxing in 1981. What's really pathetic is folks like you who dismiss anything they don't know or understand. You're the one who wants to make the case that now is comparable. It's on you to show how that is. Tell us how now is better. Can you? What's happening here is you want folks to waste their time listing all the quality fighters from that time (which you obviously can't do since you don't know a thing about Mamby) and then you can just say they are overrated and are looked back upon with nostalgia...even though you will be seeing many of the names for the first time. I'm certainly not going to play that game. I've wasted too much time over the years here discussing the sport with folks who don't have enough knowledge of the topic to make it a worthwhile discussion. Folks like you who don't know a thing about the fighters being discussed are dismissing them out of hand actually knowing the reality of these fighters and their careers wouldn't work for their bullshit point of view. If you want to prove now is better ...then do so. Or shut the fuck up.
I just don't understand why the folks who know the least about any given topic are usually the ones who yap the most.
:: It's funny... but take a step back and think about it. This chap is arguing that 2011 in boxing is as good or better than 1981.
Mamby wasn't a great fighter and he belongs in a thread about underrated, underappreciated fighters. This is about a date. 1981. I'm not clinging to Al Cole as a barometer for 1996 and you shouldn't cling to Mamby. You act like others wouldn't join in. How can they now? You are just a nostalgic whiner. Wahh 1981 wahhh 1981...wemember how the sun was bwighter and the giwls wa pwettier to back then?
I enjoy boxing today, but the match-ups seemed far better back years ago and the boxers were techically better. Boxers fought more than 2-3 times a year too.
quick google of '1981 pound for pound lists' 1981 KO Magazine (January) 1 - Thomas Hearns 2 - Sugar Ray Leonard 3 - Marvin Hagler 4 - Larry Holmes 5 - Alexis Arguello 6 - Wilfredo Gomez 7 - Eddie Mustafa Muhammad 8 - Matt Saad Muhammmad 9 - Wilfred Benitez 10 - Roberto Duran/Aaron Pryor (tie) 2011 1 Manny Pacquiao 2 Floyd Mayweather 3 Sergio Gabriel Martinez 4 Nonito Donaire 5 Juan Manuel Marquez 6 Wladimir Klitschko 7 Timothy Bradley 8 Pongsaklek Wonjongkam 9 Giovani Segura 10 Andre Ward qed
despite the fact that I don't ever remember engaging you in any type of discussion, nor do I know any of your opinions on boxing, I saw the thread where you wasted cdogg in a debate and was impressed. Anytime you see one of my 'completely retarded' posts and wish to say something more than a cdoggesque comment, go for it.
Awesome response. You have now convinced me that 2011 is better. Oh, wait...you haven't...because, well...I know about the fighters involved and I have a brain. Your response is typical of someone who knows he doesn't have a leg to stand on but desperately needs the last word...no matter how ridiculous that word may be.
And it doesn't even include Spinks and Qawi, who dethroned Muhammed & Saad that year. And other top-notch fighters like Sanchez, Pedroza, Chandler and Pintor. The early 80's were stacked...no matter how much mikE would like to pretend otherwise.
