Probably more so, I agree. But if that was the case it still doesn't say much for the sport that someone with only an amateur wrestling background could come into the UFC and become heavyweight champion in 3 fights.
I think if somebody can keep the fight standing they can really mess him up. I thought there was a brief moment, when Mir hurt him, but once he starts to dryhump you on the ground for a few minutes your energy tank is empty. You have to stick and move, but avoiding to get taken down by a guy, who is that big, that fast and that strong is really difficult. I think it´s very unlikely he´ll ever get submitted again, as long as he is on top.
Exactly just before Lesnar took him down, Frank caught him with a punch and a knee to the head. When a guy that big is sitting on you its pretty hard to do anything.
Kurt Angle is a legitimate Olympic Gold Medal Winner. He won in 1996. Bad example. His pedigree as a wrestler is even better than Brock's, and Brock was a good amateur wrestler.
Lesnar will have to be choked out until he loses consciousness. I would like to see that happen.:hammert:
Or maybe it just says something about Lesnar's ability as a fighter. Some of you will never give Lesnar credit, it's ridiculous. Comparing him to other WWE guys is stupid. How many other WWE guys are 2X D1 Champions? How many have the same wrestling pedigree as Lesnar? Lesnar IS a fucking beast. I'm going to look at the prediction thread now and Laugh if ANY of you picked Mir.
You picked Mir. I laugh at you. Give the guy some credit, you obviously thought Mir was better than Brock or you wouldn't have made that pick.
He could have fought freaks in Japan like the rest of the ogres that can't make 265 and fight in a real org. ::
One thing I know is he wouldn't be fighting in the UFC no way could Big Show maintain his strength while cutting to 265
The point is, Brock outweighed Kurt by a 100lbs. That's ALL I'm saying. Pedigree aside, Brock's shoulders were pinned to the mat by a man half his size during a real life tussle. All the wrestlers who saw them go at it said so and even Brock had a hard time swallowing the fact that he got owned. That's why I feel Brock will meet resistance in the UFC once there's a decent crop of talented opposition. Thus far, he's beaten an inactive shot old man in Couture who lost all his muscle mass by the time he fought Lesnar, and Frank Mir has gotten his butt kicked too many times for me to consider him an elite UFC talent today. There's really not much talent in the division.
What can I say? Mir looked like a fighter reborn with that last win over a shot Noguira. I figured he'd catch that leg again but Brock had other plans like using that big body to stay on top of Mir. BTW, Mir is still a better fighter than Brock. It came down to physical strength if you actually watch the fight.:: You think Brock has more talent than Frank Mir? Brock won through strength and power. You just ain't gonna beat King Kong when he's sitting on top of you.
It doesn't matter if Brock outweighed Kurt by that much. Brock faced the best in the U.S., but Kurt faced and beat the best in the world to win his gold medal. The winner of Shane Carwin vs Cain Velasquez gets Lesnar. My hope is that it is Carwin because he's an excellent wrestler with serious punching power. Brock is to the UFC what the Klitschkos are to boxing: unusually large and hard to beat because, in part, of extreme physical attributes. Lesnar made it on a pro football team without ever having played football. He was cut later, but he managed to make it without ever having played in high school or college. I don't care who you are: THAT is unbelievable. The man is an amazing physical specimen, an asshole, and a fierce competitor.
Brock might not be more talented than Mir overall, but he's a superior fighter that much is certain. You weren't the least bit impressed with Lesnar's control this time around? I loved the head control he used. He basically fixed the hitting the back of the head problem from last time. He made it almost impossible for Mir to avoid the beating. I thought he looked good in this fight. Complete domination. I think he also silenced Mir with his "It's like having your little sister on your back pulling your hair"
Some people will never give Brock credit. And for the record, Brock has more talent Mir. Not even close. Mir may have more MMA skill at this point. But Brock Lesnar has more physical/athletic talent and it isn't even close. The thought that most WWE guys could come over and have this success is retarded. Bobby Lashley might do well in Dream and he could possibly even get in the UFC. But he will never have the ability of Brock. No way no how. Brock has dominated world class HW fighters. Bobby Lashley barely got past Jason Guida. Lets compare apples to apples guys. Kurt Angle for sure could have, the guy was one of the greatest wrestlers in the world. But his back is fucked so its a moot point. If you don't like Brock, that is exactly what Dana and Brock want. He went overboard after the fight, but if you don't think it was planned your foolish. Every sport has villains. Football has T.O., Baseball had Barry Bonds, Boxing has them as well. Ali called Smokin Joe an uncle tom to sell tickets. Its a winning recipe and it will happen as long as people pay money for sports entertainment. The fact is he is a dominating fighter, and is only getting better.
I was impressed with Lesnar. It's also nice what he's doing right now in the UFC. Now I can go to the other MMA boards and post threads like "What would Ultimate Warrior have done in his prime if he was in the UFC?" The hardcore MMA fanatics are gonna go apesh*t.
It wasn't that long ago where guys on this board were going nuts over Kimbo's dominating wins over a couple of mma clowns and thinking he was going to be a big deal until he got KTFO by some TUF reject.:: I'm not putting Brock Lesnar on such a high pedistool just yet. Still to me, he beat a shell of Randy Couture, humped Heath Herring to death, and got a decent win over Frank Mir who got overconfident in his striking ability, even despite the fact that he's gotten pummelled into a bloody mess a few times not that long ago. Still a ways to go for Lesnar yet.
If you can't look at Kimbo and Brock and see the difference you should never watch fighting of any kind again. Seriously.
I do look at them differently but the bandwagoning is very similar. A couple of good wins and fans are going apesh*t, calling him the future of MMA and all that crap. ::
While I think Nog beats Couture, and though he is on the decline, he's still a much better fighter than he looked against Mir, I don't think they match him up against Lesnar unless they have to. I know the rumor is that the winner of the Carwin\Velasquez fights gets a title shot, but don't be surprised if Cro-Cop gets a shot if he is somehow able to beat Dos Santos. At this point, Lesnar beats Cro-Cop pretty easily, and Cro-Cop is still a bigger name than either Carwin or Cain. I don't think he's a better fighter, but he's a bigger name. In spite of what Hanzy is saying, the heavyweight picture in the UFC has really turned around. Lesnar right now is ruling the roost. Couture, Mir, Cro-Cop and Nog are still big names, even if they are on their way out. There's bound to be a good fighter or two out of Carwin, Velasquez, Dos Santos, Russow and Duffee. You still have the bottom feeders like McCully, Gonzaga and Kongo. Plus, you have a whole new crop of TUF Heavies coming up. And while I doubt Kimbo will ever be better then average, if he happens to win TUF, or at least come close, and is able to knock off a few wins in a row, with at least one big name among them, he'll be rushed into a Mega-Fight' with Lesnar. I doubt Kimbo can go that far, but if he does, it'll do huge PPV numbers, freak show or not. TFK
