Nah... If REED Isn't Mistaken, Adrien Broner had 1 or 2 of THE Most Highly Viewed HBO Boxing Telecasts, of 2012...He May Be Doing Likewise in 2013, thus Faaaar.... Mayweather WASN'T Pulling in Viewership #'s like THAT, when he was 22-23 Years of Age... REED:nono:
Nobody in the mainstream knew a GODDAMN thing about Floyd until I would say the Gatti fight, which was 2005. And he didn't become a STAR until 2 years after that. So that's 7 years that Floyd was on top, yet virtually unknown.
Explain to me how people find out about broner through social media? I follow Miley and she tweets about Broner? When Floyd destroyed Genaro and Manfredy, he was known throughout boxing. The Corrales fight was a huge fight with Kellerman hype off the charts. Broner has had...Malignaggi? What were the viewerships of Corrales and whatever Floyd fight was next compared to Broner's best?
REED Will Safely ASSume Floyd-Corrales Came NOWHERE NEAR the 1.3 mil Broner-Malignaggi Did, Nevermind the 1.4 mil that Tuned In for Broner-Rees... There's No Question Which Fight was More IMPORTANT or BIGGER to Hardcore Fans, but that Doesn't Mean it was the Most WATCHED... REED:hammert:
Such as? Mayweather has a famous name and was an olympian. He was a p4p guy, similar to Broner, but he got there beating fighters people knew. He had the 'slave wage' shit going on that really got his name out there around the Corrales time. Broner? He was annointed the chosen one by HBO and is riding Floyd's coattails to legitimate popularity. First, we haven't even established that Broner has more viewers than Floyd did at the same stage of his career around the Corrales fight. Second, once we establish that, no one has explained how social media has anything to do with the yet-to-be-demonstrated popularity advantage Broner has. What Broner does have is a recency advantage over Floyd. I suspect that may be what is going on here. But maybe not.
To Be CLEAR, Floyd Jr. is the 1 who Took the Mayweather Name MAINSTREAM... Uncle Roger was a GOOD Fighter in his Day, but Until his Nephew's Rise to Fame, Roger was Probably BEST Known for his LOSSES to Julio Cesar Chavez...He Wasn't Even Remotely Close to MAINSTREAM Recognition, During his Fighting Career...Uncle Jeff & Floyd Sr. had Considerably LOWER Profiles than Even Roger Did... The Mayweather Name Carried Weight w/HARDCORE Boxing Audiences Almost Exclusively...In '96, Antonio Tarver was the Pre-Olympic "Darling" of the Squad, David Reid was the Only Gold Medalist & Floyd "Only" Managed Bronze...Floyd Got about as Much PUBLICITY Out of that as Andre Dirrell Did, 8 Years Later, which is to Say, Next to NONE... Floyd Became a Star to HARDCORE Fans After Whipping Genaro Hernandez & Angel Manfredy...He Started to Register in the MAINSTREAM Around the Time of the Gatti Fight (his 1st PPV Main Event) & Became CERTIFIABLY Mainstream when HBO Created "24/7" for his Bout w/Dela...
