REED isn't Blaming Barrera OR Even Saying Hamed Would've BEATEN him if he was "Right"...But the MANNER of Barrera's Victory, Which is OVERBLOWN by Hamed Haters, Would've Been LESS than it Was...
Sounds like the James Toney defense to me. I'm curious...does anyone know why Handfed never attempted a comeback? I discount his last fight like a year later. It would have been interesting. With the MAB fight happening before 9/11, I'm curious as to how he would have been perceived in this country once he started with the "all praise be to Allah" talk.
I loved Hamed, he was the guy who got me into boxing (as a hardcore fan) in the first place, but Calzaghe had the superior ring IQ IMO.

One thing I'll say for Naz, he didn't pull any of this Broner shit, he took his loss like a man. Didn't run off, done his interviews and said plainly and clearly "the better man won". Fair play.
Obviously, it WOULDN'T have Went Over Well...REED has No PROOF, but he Thinks this Played a Part in Hamed's Retirement...HBO Likely Told him to Lay Low, Next Thing you Know he's Packing On Weight...The Vegas Crowd was Straight Up Nasty to Hamed, PRIOR to 9/11...It'd have Been Unbearable to the Point where REED would've Questioned his SAFETY, Especially if he Insisted Upon Doing the Pre-Fights Chants...
Naturally he would have had to tone it down but he wasn't always as overt with it like in the Barerra fight. I'm not saying he ever made any secret about his religious affiliation, but he seemed to be playing more of an Arab card (pre MAB) than a Muslim one.
as was morales - barrera 1, right? what difference would it have made if marquez got the justified decision over norwood, considering hamed fought the LOSER of morales barrera 1 ?
Let's Keep it Real, Neil..."Losing" to Morales RESURRECTED Barrera's Career...He was Brought in to LOSE to Morales, DEFINITIVELY...Didn't Happen Though & in Fact, Barrera was Thought Of More Highly (than Morales), in the Aftermath...
As Steward said what stood out with Naseem was his instincts. Not textbook but accurate when he got aggressive and just knew how to land punches. He also had underrated footwork because of his style.
:atu: The Pic is VINTAGE Prince... An Over the Top, Pint Sized, Shit Talking, Arab Boxer, Rocking Leopard Patterned Trunks???...NOT the Least Bit "Threatening" Looking, Striking a COMICALLY ABSURD Pose, Lips Curled Up, like he's Taking a Selfie w/his Cell Phone... When REED Looks @ that Pic he Smiles, Shakes his Head & Thinks, "That Little Motherfucker was CRAZY!"...Based SOLELY on that Pic, Prince Would Probably Be THE LAST Guy You'd Expect to Be 1 of the HARDER Punchers in Boxing History... REED:hammert:
kinda like if he wouldve fought marquez after the norwood fight. lets not pretend like morales or barrera wouldve looked stellar vs lil fagler
Hamed was a funny little dude, and I was a fan of his. He got a lot of hate cause he was an arab with a big mouth, and that shcoked most people cause they expect and want arabs to be polite and humble. Still, I have to admit that he was a bit of a fraud, and the way he retired after the MAB (well Calvo) was a bit shamefull.
calzaghe was better than Hamed. Herol Graham and Kirklaind Laing were better than either, but Calzaghe would have knocked Herol out. Another guy who would have SPARKED Khan was a fellow called Gary Jacob.
I wasn't insinuating anything negative about KK. Cdogg said KK got slaughtered by the Prince, I didn't see it that way as Kelly fought a good fight and gave a good account of himself. KK lost but even when he was dropped for the final time it looked to me like he could have gotten up even then. He didn't seem that hurt from my recollection and I was surprised he stayed down. It was a good fight but anyone who says the Prince dominated is really reaching IMO. Prince won, no disputing that, but Kelly gave as good as he got in that one and for a while there it looked like he was going to spoil the Prince's American debut. I only remember Steve Robinson and Bungu being guys who were visibly terrified of Hamed before the bell even rung. Anyone else probably just felt his power and bitched up during the fight. I don't remember Medina and McCullough not letting their hands go, so I'd argue if they were even afraid at all. As far as why I'd say they (Bungu & Robinson) were afraid is they must have bought into the Hamed hype just like anyone else. Yeah, you're right all of those guys weren't on the backsides of their careers, and even though I didn't say all of them I'll retract that statement. So yes Hamed beat all those guys, he did what he was supposed to do. To answer your other question, Kelly dropped Hamed 3 times. KK got dropped 3 times himself and lost but that hardly sounds like a slaughtering when he did very well in the fight himself. Hamed was a very good talented fighter and I'm not disputing that. All I'm saying is he wasn't on JMM, MAB Morales level. I never thought he was and he never proved he was, he beat a lot of good contenders but he never beat the best.
Broner would be exactly like Hamed................. if he had better reflexes, and fight ending power. Big difference in class between Barrera, and Maidana.
Hameds knockdowns were having an increasingly detrimental and accumulative effect on Kelley. Also, Kelley's "One Defeat" was a shellacking by Goyo Vargas. Kelley was never in an easy fight, even the KO over Gainer was a beating he had to come from behind to win.
A guy like Rainmaker can write articles for Bleacherreport and they'd be among the first hits on Google... It's like citing Stormfront.org in a political debate
funny because kelley was commentating mayweather jr.'s fight with emmanuel burton, the next fight he had after he'd faced vargas. the other guy in the booth made mention that mayweather jr. had been criticized for moving too much against vargas and kelley said, "well anyone who said that has obviously never been in the ring with goyo vargas"
Kevin got his head punched off in that 12th round and George was complimenting him on having landed the hardest punch of the round.
:scratcher: Kelley's sole loss before the Hamed fight was to Alejandro Gonzales, and it was a shellacking indeed.
no doubt, but they aren't anywhere near as big... B/R will pull up first page Google hits on any sporting topic you can come up with and 99.9% of their content is written by random internet users who are no more qualified to write any of these articles than anyone else is I've seen "Top 20 All-Time" whatever lists that would make Tracey Callis seem objective and knowledgeable You will find articles that are embarrassingly bad all over that site...
