I'm still not sure if he does actually. Floyd had very good power at 130, and still good power at 135. I'll wait until he faces good opponents before declaring him a better puncher.
i dont think broner is a particularly better puncher than mayweather jr at lightweight. he just comes into the ring at 150lbs instead of 138lbs
Rees was used to fight larger men though. He did win a belt at 140. There's a reason it took Kotelnik 12 rounds to stop Rees, and Broner only 4. Firepower. Floyd was far more precise than Broner, and was quicker of both hand and foot, in terms of raw power, I'd give the edge to Broner. But if he doesn't have an edge there, then there's literally nothing he has over Floyd. I guess think of Broner and Ward as the new bootleg version of Floyd, and Roy.
Deleon won vs Broner imo. It was close but I can't really see how Broner gets more than a draw, 96-94 Broner is very generous. 99-91 is simply a criminial score and reeks corruption more than incompetence. Still, Broner was 21 at the time and it was his first big fight, and while I don't think his performance was due to him being unmotivated as REED's think ( no reasons for him not be motivated for his first fight on HBO ), I do think it was mainly because he hadn't really find his indentity in the ring. Kind of like Ward when he used to fight like a RJ wannabe. Broner wanted to potshot and move and that doesn't suit his strenght. But let's not sell Deleon performance short. He fought a very good fight and there's a chance that he simply exposed some of Broner's weakness. As I said, I do think Broner improved quite a bit since then but yes, he arguably hasn't fought an opponent as good as Deleon since then too
Well put, I agree with all. Also think it was more nerves etc than lack of motivation. I mean, if they fought now I would pick Broner to stop him, obviously, especially considering how Broner looks at 135. But that doesn't detract from the notion that Ponce deserved that win.
Hasn't faced anybody as good as DeLeon since? Ummm...... is everybody now writing off DeMarco as some bum or something? With Rios and Marquez having moved up, DeMarco was considered the best lightweight in the world when Broner thrashed him. Now all of a sudden, people are pulling Ricky Burns out their asses, as if Burns has a chance.
broners resumé being thin doesnt magically mean ponce is good. ponce sucks. Id take eloy perez over ponce.

De Marco isn't a bum...but he isn't some world beater either. Like you said Rios and Marquez were the 135 division. Once they move up the division was shit and the least shit fighter from a pack of shit fighters took the number one spot. One or two euro fans saying Burns has a chance isn't an avalanche...At 140 against Rios, Matthysee, Garcia and other fighters there is were we see if Broner is the truth or just carefully picking opponents. And since he comes in at 150 for his fights, plus looks much bigger than his opponents at 135 it should be problem moving up.
I agree completely that he should just move up. Fighting either Burns or Vasquez is a waste of time. Even if he moved up and fought someone like Peterson first, it'd be a step up and Peterson is a lot better than Burns.
looks like burns camp wised up and decided not to pay awkward ass vasquez what they promised. now burns can skip this risky bullshit and go straight into his ass whipping vs broner.
