I honestly think Golden Boy has turned into a "Planet Hollywood" type promotional firm. Big names joining forces to churn out a marginal product.
Three guys at work all think Roy will lose to Tito, the are all african american. I, who am not typically a fan of Roys, have bet them all money that Roy will win. I think some people have just lost confidence in Roy.
I'm going to say it just like when Mayweather fought De la Hoya... If Mayweather (insert Roy's name Here) doesn't beat De La Hoya (insert Trinidad's name here) there's something wrong with the sport... Trinidad hasn't fought in two years. He's fighting at the heaviest he's ever fought. He's not on the same speed level with Roy and he hasn't fought someone this much bigger than himself in... well, ever. And he's supposed to beat Roy Jones... Jones just beat a low level contender at light heavyweight and one of the better supermiddleweights in the world in his last two fights. He's not the Jones of 5 years ago, but he can still fight at the top level. if he can't beat Trinidad, there's a problem...
I actually thought in my heyday we were pretty cool, REED. It is kinda uncool for you to say that guvnah.
It's STILL All Good, ROBOTO... For Whatever Reason, U just Find it Necessary to Carry On this "Roll w/the Punches" SCHTICK... REED
:: "roboto made an alias which posts the exact way he would post anyway, which defeats the whole purpose of having an alias" - smart guy REED  keep the sterotype going REED  on a side note i cant believe there are polish boxing fans who don't like Golota....what betrayal
Isn't that how it works? Cos they sure hate white people because they are white!!! Roy also gets paler every year. That could be part of it. Griffin"yo Roy, throw that cheap shot, cos brothers still don't give a fuck about yo rustic ass, bitch" ...
Surely this topic is pumped full of the kind of racist sentiment that has no place in our society. I think no matter what color your skin is, there are reasons why you may or may not like a specific fighter. In Roy's case he has done alot to alienate people, and is brash and arrogant enough for people of any race to finally say enough is enough. When Ali took his black power medicine it was at least in some way for a particular cause, people of all races identified with that, and even if he went out of his way to act an arrogant villian, people respected the stances he took on things during a time when controversy reigned. With Roy, he's just a selfish, arrogant, and humorless personality. Ali could insult someone, but in a way that would make you chuckle a bit to yourself. Roy just talks a bunch of shit and expects people to remain fans of his because of talent. I think no matter who you are, if you say some of the things that were said in this thread it speaks alot more about your own character than those who refuse to make race the most determining factor in things.
What kind of reedtarded verbal diarrhea are you spewing here? WTF does race have to do with not liking a fighter? I guess white people who hate Roy are racist following your rationale
oh come now. You started this thread and gave what was basically a white power salute in reverse. This is no different than if someone on ESB went on a rant about how white people need to band together in support of the Klitschkos because he's a fellow whitie. Although that probably has been done knowing ESB :: But seriously, instead of attacking people who disagree with you by avoiding the issue, how about justifying such a blatantly racist take with something other than racist motivations. Should this metaphor be extended to all black fighters, or perhaps to each race for every guy. Going by this, the kind of trumped up shit that went on during Holmes/Cooney should be done for every mixed race fight. And that is crap, liking a fighter has nothing to do with race, or at least it shouldn't. It is only the ignorant and hypocrites who hide behind skin color rather than being equal.
2 Those of U who've RECENTLY Accused REED of Being "Racist" in this Thread, REED ALREADY Addressed this BULLSHIT Accusation Nearly 3 Months Ago... REED
Honestly, your post was predictable because ..... 1. You HAD to respond :: 2. Having to respond, you were UNABLE to retort logic, so your only choice was to acknowledge, but not engage... and setup a reason why you can't speak about it in the future because of me
Because it is all about his race, but he doesn't want to put the "ist" behind it because he would look like a hypocrite the way he has constantly called everyone else racist, for LESS of a reason.
REED... The brothas on the board understand the question. Trust me. actually, For all you posters who have a problem with the thread... Think of it this way... Cupey and the Puerto Rican's follow Trinidad. The Mexican fans are loyal to the mexican fighters (think Ron King et al...) What's ' wrong with the black fans being loyal to a Roy? It's just natural.
I agree with that to an extent. With some of the guys, its a national thing, like Chavez/Pacquiao/Trinidad. With Roy there isn't the same analogy as with these guys. Nor is there a comparison to Ali who went out of his way to identify as a black man first. Roy is an american first, who happens to be black, just as Juan Diaz is an american who happens to be mexican. I would have the same criticism if people said the same thing about any racial make-up. I think its clear people follow racial lines alot of the time, but when you start to say the kinds of "us versus them" things thats when it becomes a problem. So again, if a particular guy dislikes someone that has the same racial make-up as they themselves do, there's nothing wrong there
There's nothing wrong there, (anyone can like who they want) but (to my point) It would be like cupey in a room full of Puerto Rican's that were rooting against Coto... He'd be thinking "Miguel must have shot one of these guys dogs or something... what's the deal!?!"
Here is where YOU Got OUT Of Line... Point Out ANYWHERE N this Thread where REED Portrayed ANYTHING REMOTELY Resembling an "Us vs. Them" Scenario???:dunno: ... & Your Juan Diaz Example is FAULTY Cause he Bends Over BACKWARDS to Portray HIMSELF as a "Mexican Warrior"...Have U NEVER Heard his Post-Fight Interviews B 4????... Some of Ya'll REALLY Need to LOOK UP the DEFINITION of the Word "Racist", B 4 Labeling REED as Such... REED
How about because IT'S FUCKING DUMB :dunno: You single out a race, you are a racist by definition......
Using my example... Are you saying its dumb for a Mexican to root for Cotto because he's Puerto Rican? Is it Dumb for Phillipino's to root for Paquiao because He's Phillipino? What about Sinan Samil Sam and the Turks?
I'm saying, you like a fighter just because he's black or you support him because of this, you are a goon :dunno:
this is not whats going on here. If you like Roy because he's black, well that is somewhat racist, but almost everyone is like that. If you say, why don't other people of my race like Roy, after all he is black, then you've gone from conceding a personal preference that happens to be based on race, and turning into a "taking sides" type of thing, rather than people just rooting for who they do for whatever reason.
