Whoa, that's going a bit far. Byrd is past his best sure, but no way is he as shot as evander. Even 5 years ago the commander would have smashed Ibragimov. I wouldn't pick Povetkin against Wlad no, but I think he is perhaps the 2nd best heavyweight. Are you seriously telling me that you'd pick Bragimov to beat Povetkin? Sultana would be his normal negative self, and Povs would just walk him down and combo the shit out of him, outwork him and outfight him, and win a clear decision.
In digging for some anti-Ibragimov stuff...I found this, so just for a laugh: 2006 Top 10 Wishlist 10. Sultan Ibragimov gets taken out. Sorry guys, he's exciting and all, but I can't help but see a slightly taller and fatter version of Vassily Jirov. No thank you. Bring on his Michael Moorer, please. 9. The ABC's get a major league shakedown from an organised group of the finest fighters around. Following the examples set by Hamed and Barrera, shelving the ABC titles and reigning with people power. 8. Ike Quartey gets a title shot against Terra Garcia and leaves the sport promtly after a follow up defense against De La Hoya. I see bad times ahead if he strays from that plan. 7. Drug testing becomes mandatory throughout training camp, pre-fight and post fight. We need to eliminate the James Toney's, Jameel McCline's, Fernando's Vargas', Klitschko's and Ike Ibeabuchi's of the world BEFORE they become a problem. Pull your finger out and make it across the board, for christs sake. 6. James Toney to wipe the floor with Hasim Rahman. Don't get me wrong, I don't like Toney, but at least he can fight and won't bore us to tears in the meantime. Rahman is the worst paper titlist in years and unfortunately, no one yet is acknowledging that. 5. Someone then quickly demolishes Toney and gets rid of him as well. Hopefully Lamon Brewster or Wlad Klitschko. 4. Ivan Calderon fights a worthy contender or champion and is lit up in brutal fashion. Either he learns to punch or match-make, or I am praying he becomes our next Adonis Rivas. 3. Jeff Lacy and Joe Calzaghe DO fight, they DO make it exciting and it WILL lead to one of them unifying completely. That means Mikkel Kessler and Markus Beyer. That or don't even both wasting our time. 2. Vitali Klitschko stay's retired, grows fat and is shot in the leg at a political demonstration, forcing him into premature, PERMANENT retirement. and the #1 wish for 2006.... 1. An Australian wins a godamn fight against someone with a pulse. 2005 saw both Hussein brothers lose, Green and Mundine fail in 168 pound title shots, Soliman lose a close one and Peden get bashed. Hell, even our fake Aussie's lost the plot. Tszyu is a goner. Darchinyan will probably leave the country, due to poor management...leaving us with Rocky Katsidis and Naoufel Ben Rabah. Embarassed We need a saviour.
OK fair enough, you're not a Sultan fan - which makes it even worse that you're insinuating that Sultan would beat Povs. That's obviously bad judgement rather than fandom. I would group Ibragimov and Chagaev in the same bracket, possibly Lyohkavich too. They are decent, but nothing special. Povs probably wouldn't beat Wlad, and is not phenomenal, but he is better than those 3.
Chris had an outstanding career, and I would like to see him concentrate his efforts on being a commentator where I think he has a lot of potential.
Ben Rabah is not world class. Rob Medley just got handled easily by a South African and Mundine decided to clean a contact lens with his mouth causing a terrible infection which came close to costing him his eye. Aussie boxing is in big trouble on the world stage. I don't think any of the guys we've got going around right now can make much noise worldwide. This includes Vic who is STILL not listening to his corner and loading up with the left while holding his right down by his hip. He'll get sparked again by a decent counter puncher.
