    Yep...

He's SLOW, has SUBPAR Defense & his Prime Objective is to Knock your Head Off, but Kelly Pavlik ISN'T a Reckless Brawler by Any Means:nono: ...

He ALWAYS Jabs his Way N 1st...He's a Very BASIC Aggressive "Boxer/Puncher"...

Calsaki will always struggle for recognition because he was protected for most of his career.

He would make all the HOF clubs but would be forgotten as soon as he retires.

Yep, he is a basic 1-2 boxer puncher. Other than his obvious attributes, his size, reach, and excellent power - he has a nice ramrod jab, and is very accurate with good timing. He is also aggressive, but has just enough patience so as to not be reckless.

And you're right, he pretty much ALWAYS jabs his way in.

It was a great display of accuracy when he bludgeoned Jermain senseless in the first fight.

Some people seem to think he just wails in swinging dead weight retard punches with his eyes closed :dunno:

Calzaghe fights better against guys who bring the fight forward to him. Generally, he has faster hands than these guys and as a result his shots land before the person who attempted to throw first. That's essentially how he did to Lacy what he did- before Lacy had even got his arm moving to throw his intended shot, Calzaghe had hit him with two or three and then moved. He did the same to Kessler (but to a lesser extent)- as Mikkel came to him he picked him off and got out.

That's why I describe him as a counter puncher- he uses his opponent's forward momentum against them to hit and get out as his opponent comes to him.

See how he struggled early to get to grips with Hopkins on Saturday? He couldn't fight his usual fight because Hopkins, as expected, backed away from Joe all night and tied him up when Joe tried to force himself on him. As a result, Joe couldn't really hit Bernard and get out as he likes to, because Bernard was never in front of him for any length of time.

A fight with Pavlik would go thus. Pavlik would come forward, trying to establish his jab and looking to land straight right hands. He would have early success as Joe tried to figure out the rhythm and timing of Pavlik's attacks. He might even score an early KD. As the fight progressed, Joe would start timing Kelly's shots, landing flurries before Pavlik could land using his superior hand speed and getting out of range as Kelly comes to him and tries to throw his shots. Kelly, who is brave and skilled, would throw more shots to try to compensate, but this would only give greater opportunity for Joe to land first in the exchange and land more shots. This would allow Calzaghe to pull away to a clear(ish) decision win.

And btw, at no stage did I intend to infer that Pavlik was some kind of Arturo Gatti. Even though his defense his limited, he is a much, much higher calibre of fighter than that in all respects. :nono: Nor did I say he was a 'brawler'- he is a very, very aggressive, accurate, 'come forward', 1-2 puncher.

Jones would be a good fight for the resume, and the bank account....but there would be a widespread feeling of 'so what' if Calzaghe won, despite me personally feeling that it is a risky fight.....Jones' style is wrong for Joe

i want to see the Pavlik fight.....he's undefeated, so Calzaghe would have a chance to do what no one else has done. His style is suited to Joe.....it should be an exciting fight....although i fancy Joe to win, it could be a classic.....Joe could really finish his career in style, something that not many past champions are able to say

the Pavlik fight makes so much more sense....except maybe not financially

I agree with MWS and Kuaki, it is next to impossible to look good against Hopkins. I thought Joe's work rate and pressure would eventually get to B-Hop but I was wrong, Nard spoiled from 1-12.

As for a fight with Jone's I do not think there is any merit in that for Joe, Roy's skills unlike Hopkins do not age well and would be an easier fight these days.

IMO Joe should fight Pav in the states and bring Jones over to Cardiff for his farewell bout.
