Weird, I kind of got the exact opposite impression, really from both shows. No doubt Roy's searching for a career revival, but openly admits that he has nothing to lose in this fight. IMO, Joe will see a win here as a legit achievement against a Hall of Famer, retribution for fights that never took place nearly a decade or so ago. He beat Hopkins, now Roy should he come out on top on Saturday... I don't think he views it as a foregone conclusion and a safe money grab. As far as the episode, I liked this one more than the first... but it's still a matter of appreciating HBO's production and commitment to the series more so than really being fascinated or entertained by any of the actual content provided.
REED Also liked how Big Roy Shook Off All the Criticisms of How he Treated Roy Jr.... "If U Want Somebody to B Extraordinary, U Can't Train him by Using Ordinary Methods"... Big Roy Went On to Basically Say "Look where it Got Roy Jr" & Said, "If I See Something I Don't Like N his Training, I'll Tell Him & Everybody Else...I don't Care what Anybody Says, I'm Still his Father." He Ended his Portion by Saying "I WOULDN'T Change Nothin"... Sure, Big Roy was a PRICK & Borderline ABUSIVE to Roy Jr., but even RJJ Himself CAN'T Argue w/the RESULTS.... REED:hammert:
REED Somewhat Senses that too...But let's Remember, N his Last Fight, Bernard Pulled the "White Boy" Card on Calzaghe, so he had Joe's FULL Attention N Preparation & on Fightnight... Also, the Last Fight was Calzaghe's American Debut... Calzaghe Definitely HASN'T Been as ANIMATED This Time Around...He Doesn't Seem Any Less CONFIDENT, but Calzaghe Isn't as BRASH as he Normally is Either...Almost as if Roy's LACK of ShitTalk has LULLED Calzaghe to Sleep.... Hopefully it Carries Over to Fightnight... REED:mj:
I agree...what struck me the most is seeing Roy sparring with "local" guys. For his sake, I hope that was simply stated for the cameras and not the truth behind his camp. He won't be ready for Calzaghe by fighting off the ropes against local bums. In fact, he needs to stay off the ropes for the majority of the fight.
Yeah, REED Wasn't Happy w/that Either... Local, Unknown Guys would B Soooooooo Happy just SHARING a Ring w/Roy Jones to Give him some Solid WORK... Like U Said N an Earlier Post, the PACE of Roy's Workout DIDN'T Seem All that Hectic...All they Showed was him Jumping Rope, Hitting the Double End Bag & Doing Rhythmic Drills... Hopefully Roy is Hiding his TRUE Workout... REED:kidcool:
Yep.... here's a short recap of Roy in the two episodes: Episode 1 - Roy dances in the ring to Run DMC. Hit the pads once, the speed bag once. Winks a lot. Play boxing with a fat guy in the kitchen. Episode 2 - Roy takes break from traning.
Exactly. Roy's habit of constantly fighting off the ropes is truely frustrating as a fan. Unfortunately i expect him to continue doing it against Calzaghe.
He'll do it because that's his advantage. Especially against a swarmer like Calzaghe. The difference between Jones-Tarver I and Jones-Tarver III is obvious - and that was Roy's ability to fight off the ropes. In the first fight, his success came in the center of the ring. In the third, against the ropes. Calzaghe is the perfect opponent for that kind of style when done right.
I can just hear Joe's post-fight interview: "Look, Roy's a legend. There's no shame in losing to a legend." And if the interviewer were bright enough, he'd follow with, "Yeah but he was knocked out by Glen Johnson and Antonion Tarverm, neither of whom the average fan would consider a legend." Joe:"Look, like I said, there's no shame. Roy's a legend."
Also noted was how stiff his legs were when running. Granted it was cold, but he looked like he was laboring...almost limping/hobbling out there. Reminded me of footage of Bernard Hopkins running for years gone by.
Roy's Always Ran Sorta "Weird"...There's Always Been a "Hitch" N the Way he Runs... It's Because The Motherfucker is Pidgeon Toed... REED:kidcool:
no doubt Roy just runs weird.. I remember years ago.. before one of his fights they showed him running and he said "if it wasn't for my legs bothering me I'd run all day" he kinda hobbles along
"Like I Said Before" Roy is VERY Pidgeon Toed, Meaning that when he Walks his Feet R Angled Towards EACH OTHER, as Opposed to STRAIGHT Ahead... He was Raised on Cockfighting & he even WALKS like a Bird... REED::
That was how many years ago? If that version of Roy were around today , Calzaghe never would have left Europe.
That's the STRANGEST Part of Roy Being Pidgeon Toed...His BALANCE was Impeccable...Being Pidgeon Toed Actually DECREASES your Level of Balance... But it Explains why Roy's Legs would Hurt During Roadwork, as LOK was Saying...Surely, Walking & Running that Way INCREASES the Wear & Tear on your Legs Overtime... & Roy's Decline is MOST Notable N his LEGS...He Moves SIMILAR but Not Nearly as Quickly, as OFTEN, for as Looooooooong, Or as PRECISELY as he Used to... He had NO Legs N the Glencoffe Fight & they were BELOW Average (For Him) N the Ajamu & Hanshaw Fights...Roy's Legs DID Look Slightly IMPROVED Against Tito.... But We'll See.... REED:hammert:
IMO..Calzaghe has always been scared of fighting Roy Jones Jr.....the only reason he is fighting now is that Jones is wayyyy past his best. BUT i bet he still has some doubts in his mind......do i have the skills to beat even a SHOT Roy Jones jr....
A win here could put Roy into all time legendary status. He needs to KTFO Calzaghe! It would even make Hopkins look bad. I hope Roy comes in with the same ferocity and anger as he did against Montell Griffin in the rematch.
That's as likely as ... I can't even think of a good example right now, but let's just say something really really unlikely.
I'm not talking about the chances of an upset but Roy coming out with "ferocity and anger as he did against Montell Griffin" He's just way too passive now.
Ah, O.K... Yeah, REED's Definitely NOT Anticipating Roy Coming Out like THAT...He'll B Looking to COUNTER N REED's Opinion...if, If, IF Roy Displays Any FEROCITY, he'll have Already HURT Calzaghe 1st... REED:kidcool:
Roy's a much bigger puncher than Hops and Hops dropped Calzaghe. Roy rocked Ruiz. I think Calzaghe is ready to be taken.
no doubt.. not only a much bigger puncher.. he's MUCH faster than Hopkins.. crapsaggy is going down!!!
Using that same "logic", Hopkins also dropped Tarver five rounds into their fight, something Roy couldn't do in 26 rounds. In fact, Hopkins won almost as many rounds in one fight as Roy did in three (well, two and some change)
