it was one helluva shot too... Laporte came off the ropes and just iced him Rocky Lockridge was a real good fighter and he was robbed against Wilfredo Gomez
You forgot the to mention the 50 times Pedroza's elbow landed on Laporte's face and the 30 times Pedroza landed backhands and also hit behind Laporte's head. That was Pedroza's all time dirtiest performance ever! I am sure that Agapito Sanchez studied that Pedroza fight maybe a hundred times.
My bad. That was a brain fart from my 'spanglish'. In spanish when a boxer fights for a title sometimes is called "disputar' (challenge). I just wrote what I thought in spanish-spanglish. You are right. In no way Brown came even close to beat Mosley.
I felt bad for Ruben. You have four shots at the title and they come up against: Salvador Sanchez Alexis Arguello Julio Cesar Chavez Juan LaPorte That is BRUTAL luck. The last time I talked to him he had his Denver Broncos shirt on and I couldn't help but see the irony. Four title chances and four losses (before our two Superbowl wins.)
I saw him about two years ago and he had a shaved head and looked okay. His body looked kind of skinny like he had lost some weight. My dad married his ex wife so his daughter is my step sister but i don't see him very often.
Wow, didn't know that. It's cool that you got so close to a guy like Ruben. Always had the highest amount of respect for him as a fighter.
He's always been cool to me. When he lost his comeback fight(s) my sister was so torn up about it. Of course she had me there to laugh at her and ridicule her. :dunno: I've always liked Ruben. When I was a kid, Bakersfield was 1/5 the size of the town it is now. He fought Alexis Arguello on national TV and the whole town stopped.
I bet it did. It's a real shame that boxing has lost that kind of aura and pull in large portions of the world. I can remember as a child, driving 8 hours down to Sydney and about halfway there, we put the radio on the listen to Fenech v Nelson I. Might not sound like alot, but I've not heard another fight broadcast live on radio since.
I know what you mean. I went to a few fight cards here in town a couple of years ago (no big names) and the even the people who make up the crowd really aren't even boxing fans. Like a strange mixture of WWE and UFC fans just wanting to see blood and guts. if you interviewed people coming out of the arena, 90% couldn't even tell you who just fought in the main event.
"I owe this title to Pepe Cordero" he said that was the WBC guy who assigned the judges for the fight!! that is just plain corrupt
We should add Jose "Cheo" Rojas at the top of this list: five title opportunities, five failed attempts.
Yeah, but you think Sammy Serrano was something special. The decision in Lockridge-Gomez was a disgrace.
Eddie Croft 0-3 Victor Polo 0-5 Robert Allen 0-3 Domingo Sosa 0-3 Jose Luis Zepeda 0-3 Orlando Salido 0-3 Vincenzo Nardiello 0-4

Lockridge was able to bounce back and pull this major upset by icing a 4-1 favorite in the first round. I remember watching this as a fight and when Mayweather came in in his shades i was just hoping like hell, he'd get destroyed. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/OxcYHe4Xj4I&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/OxcYHe4Xj4I&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
</P> YES! LOVE that KO... Mayweather was a good fighter and a great hitter, but he was such a shit-talking punk, about as likeable as his brother and nephew... Lockridge iced him perfectly
