A thread dedicated to one of the premier puncher-boxers in history. A pin-point accurate power puncher with fighting-ending power in both hands, who often doesn't get enough credit for his boxing skill, punch variety, and body punching.
I didn't intentionally leave it off. I was trying to highlight some of his best performances, but sure, here's the Pintor fight if you wanna watch it. I thought Zarate clearly won.
At WORST, even if you did score it for Pintor, that still means Zarate only lost in his prime to two HOFmers.
A perfect example of elite body punching, ring generalship and should be studied by any tall pressure fighter. Some of the tidiest technique in Bantam history.
Not gonna lie, Zarate did go out with a whimper against Gomez. When Gomez got thrashed Sanchez, at least you can say that Gomez fought like Hell until the end. Zarate just got bullied and blown out. But then again, no bantamweight in history is beating Gomez.
I always loved the short power shots Zarate brutalized Zamora with. Similar to Corrales' destruction of Manfredy, only Zamora was way better than Manfredy.
Makes me wonder if Papa Trinidad had a young Tito studying film of Zarate, because they sure were similar as fighters.
