I would have a different opinion if this were a P4P matchup (which I'm glad it isn't since I hate those). But straight up at 135, I have to go with Castillo - who would be at his peak - over a still-elite but subtly declining version of Marquez. Decision win, somewhere in the ballpark of 116-112.
Chavez was better than Castillo. Titles in three weight classes, dominant wins in many of his important fights, and losses only at the tail end of his career. Chavez/Martinez was a competitive though. As was Chavez/Laporte. As was Chavez/Lockridge. As was Chavez/Taylor.
Castillo wins a 7-5, 8-4 type decision in a rough fight. Chavez-Lockridge was not all that close, BTW.
agREED. I would put Castillo on the level of Ramirez or Mancini, which isn't a bad place to be. But definitely not on the same level as Chavez.
