That uppercut from Zab in the first round was something else. I don't think there would be too many fighters that wouldn't have been at least shaken by that shot.

The fuck it is.

The McCall shot which hit Lewis landed flush and was a wild haymaker Oliver was throwing as Lewis himself was trying to land a bomb of his own.

That's not saying it was 'superhuman' , but if a 220lb+ guy hits you flush with a haymaker whilst you are not looking, you will fall down. It does NOT mean that you have a weak chin, and that is notwithstanding that Lennox was up by the time the ref stopped the fight anyway.

The Rahman punch was as clean as the one Lewis KO'd Hasim with in the rematch, and no-one would come and use that as evidence that Rahman was 'chinny'. Again, when a HW lands a flush power shot right on the point of your jaw, there is an excellent chance that you will fall over. That again is notwithstanding that Lewis was blowing out of his arse prior to being KO'd and had spent more time fucking around on film sets than training for the altitude at Carnival City.

I'm not prepared to turn this thread into another Lewis fans v Lewis haters thread, but to try and claim that McCall and Rahman had low KO rates so they couldn't punch is disingenuous and you know it. Any HW in history can land a shot to KO the other guy- that is the beauty of the division and is why even the very best get knocked on their ass occasionally.

I think Lewis got hit by enough puncher's to say he didn't have a weak chin.

It wasn't granite or even very good, but weak is something like Seldon or Morrison or Maskaev and I wouldn't put Lewis' chin on that level.

 

If Lewis is really as chinny as some would have you believe, he must be among the greatest defensive fighters in history. I mean, he was only hit flush twice in his career, right?

On that subject, I do think Lewis was one of the better defensive fighters in history. P4P wise. He had an uncanny ability to avoid the big shots.

i disagree. glass chin, as i mentioned, is a bit strong but Lennox's weakest attribute was his chin imo. he didnt have a strong chin and his whole style was shaped around this fact: cautious, deliberate, measured and a whole lot of bear hugging when needed to survive.

i agree with many points made by people here - i think both the rahman and mccall punches were excellent shots (mcall's because of the timing more than anything) and i also agree that lennox should have been allowed to continue vs. mccall - but i think he would have been finished off. i don't think lennox really had the ability to get up off the canvas to win a fight - not to shake off the cob webs and battle back.

i think he does belong in this thread because his chin was his most glaring weakness, and it is what holds him back when people judge him on the all time great lists, and in any elite all time mythical matchup

He was officially knocked down against Torres ONCE, but it was a push...even Foreman thought so as well, and Cotto was mad about that call as well, he took a lot of punishment in that fight, it was a combination and a punch on the gloves, then a push, and Cotto fell...not a legit KD, but it was an official KD...as much as Floyd's against Hernandez...
