Almost all of those fights were set to take place at the Toyota Center. Stinger never showed up for any of them.

I thought that someone else was using Stinger's profile? This happened halfway through the Maverick thread, didn't it?

Don't know. But I think this is the real Stinger now who just posted about Chris Henry.

Could be, but I could have sworn someone pointed out that the style of posting changed halfway through that thread and that it seemed to be someone else posting. I didn't think it was really Karl since the idea of a fringe lightheavy contender bulking up to fight Kevin Mitchell or Eddie Chambers seemed far-fetched and Henry's nickname is "Hard Hittin' ".

Meh, I guess it doesn't matter either way.

Too bad we never got Riddick Bowe to show up on FightBeat Chat. I was looking forward to that one. They had to cancel.

You already did start with Buddy. But Buddy turned into a little cunt and backed away from your challenge it seems!

No, I'm sure I could have escalated it, but I don't see the point in that. What happens will happen.

I can't lie, this was my exact thought when reading that post. I understand what Buddy was getting at and he came correct later in the thread. Just the irony of the post was amusing, considering who the WBO lt. heavy champ is, and that he just pulled out of a glorified tune-up fight this morning.

    Anyway...

I have to believe there's more money for Henry to fight overseas as a cruiserweight (a la Steve Cunningham) than waiting in line for a significant HVY fight over here.

Case in point: Tomasz Adamek is fighting Eddie Chambers on NBC Sports Network in June. The show's budget is $100,000. Even with the majority going to the main event, it's still not very much.

I get that Henry isn't the first choice for any given top light heavyweight - major risk/reward issues in facing a durable fighter whose only losses weren't by very much (both close yet clear, but respectable enough efforts each time). But his team seems to have a good relationship w/ the WBC.

Take fights that first get you in Top 15 (his past history, he should be able to gain inclusion just by declaring intention to eventually fight for a CW title). Then from there, seek fights w/ WBC sanctioning - #2 eliminator, #1 eliminator - until you're at the top.

It's actually easy these days. Willingness to fight a Top 15 contender once in the Top 15 yourself all but guarantees sanctioning if you ask in advance. Fighters who reject such fights get dropped, fighters willing move up. The shitty part is for a guy like Henry, it means updating your passport and conceding home field advantage. But he's already in that boat.

My two cents, anyway. Sucks that he can't get his fair shake at 175. For his own risk/reward, cruiserweight seems like the better option but worth pursuing heavyweight if his handlers believe there's money to be made w/o having to travel very far.

Bowe was one of my least-favorite fighters ever, but he is/was an excellent commentator and always came across as a cool guy when he wasn't ducking Lennox, cherry-picking opponents (during his first reign), getting overrated, and being an cheapshot asshole to his opponents.
