She don't pass the eye test to me. I can't pretend that pouring syrup on shit makes it pancakes. The female talent pool is nothing compared to what male boxers have to go through. Claressa Shields is a very average fighter. It'd be all good, if she wasn't so arrogant. I'd have nothing to say about her if she was humble. Someone should set up a real fight between Shields and a journeyman man. A very, very pedestrian man. She'd be humbled very quickly.
The situation in women's boxing is still that the best talent is in the Olympics. The biggest publicity and thus the biggest money is there. When the best Olympic fighters (such as Katie Taylor) can't make it anymore, they turn pros and dominate there. So yes, the level of the sport is low. As for Shields, I think she too looked better in the Olympics (I watched her amateur bouts couple of years ago) and earlier in her career. Now, she seems to be coasting. I don't mind her being brash however, quite the opposite. Making some noise is obligatory for a little-known athlete.
As absolutely dreadful as Jake is, a woman is simply not physically designed to handle the punching power of a man. Jake would fuck that broad up, even though she's better skilled relative to her sport.
Shields strikes me as having Juan Diaz disease. That's to say - no matter how cleanly she lands her power shots, she lacks big power. Woman or man, you're either born with it or not.
Not even being sarcastic, it'd be nice to see @REEDsART channel blow. Too many clowns like Punsh Drunk and Ego who sound like they just started following boxing during the pandemic. And Dontae only exists to race-bait.
Jake Paul is a huge powerful dude. This would be a slaughter. Even if he was her size I would overwhelmingly favor him
It'd be over inside a round. Jake is horrible, but the KO shots he's landed on men would comatose any woman fighter in history.
Shields vs Jake is the equivalent of matching a prime Serena Williams against some mug who's ranked 150 in the ATP. Serena would get rolled and overpowered, just like Claressa.
He's not that horrible of a boxer. He jas a nice overhand right and his movements are decent. Sure, hell never come close to being top 10 or even top 20 in a division, but He's also not a total scrub.
Such game was actually played it tennis. Serena and Venus played a set apiece against a scrub whose ranking was 200+
Yeah, just remembered, I had heard about that before. I never looked up the official story until now. So it wouldn't take the 150th ranked man. The 203rd ranked man was more than sufficient.
I've said numerous times, it's the only sport where I'll watch women compete. I've watched a few female French Open matches in the last week. Not in their entirety, but about 30-45 mins per match.
Yep. What evens the scale a little bit is that 200th ranked tennis player is an actual pro whereas the 200th fighter is probably a post officer or a cop, but even so, the difference in skill and ability is much larger in boxing
Fellow 2-Time Gold Medalist, Vasily Lomachenko, Won his 1st World Title in Bout 3, Became a 2-Weight World Champion by Bout 7 and was a 3 Division Titlist By Fight 12... REED
As OFF Putting As She May SEEM to Some, Claressa's Personality is Her BIGGEST Asset, from a Marketing Perspective... Very FEW Have Happened Upon or Listened to a Claressa Shields Interview and Walked Away Feeling INDIFFERENT About Her Afterwards...Claressa is 28 w/a Net Worth of $4mil; She's Doing SOMETHING Right, Obviously...That Categorically WOULD NOT Be the Case if She Wasn't Soooo "Mouthy"... Fair. That being said I’ve seen boxers fight for an Australian title in their pro debut. It’s not unprecedented but at least for me it’s looked upon with a cynical eye.
I don't know if anyone else here has any experience in a ring with a woman, but at Joe Galleghar's the sparring was based off experience, not weight. This was just to mix up the sparring partner and to let the least experienced and least skilled of us to spar with the wonder kids. The goal obviously wasn't to lead lambs to the slaughter when they put in a girl with eight fights against a 7 time national champion, but to let them learn from the best. But this meant that I - being quite literally the worst - often got put in with the best guys and girls there. In my experience - albeit in sparring - is that no matter how skilled a girl is, they simply cannot match the general strength of a guy. Even in sparring where your not trying to knock them out, you can feel the sheer difference in strength. It's actually a little disturbing. There's this weird crunch when you land something, even if it's as innocuous as a jab. The idea of a guy like Jake - as limited as he is - going all out against someone like Shields is scary. He'd deal some serious damage to her. I don't mean like a bad knockout, I mean like broken bones, teeth and internal bleeding. If Shields survived the first few rounds, she'd never be the same fighter again.
