This is a great fight for boxing and both fighters. Great move by Cotto. If he loses to Mosely it won't necessarily hamper his career since Mosely is a HOF'er. If he beats Mosely, its a whole knew level for Cotto. Mosely can put another feather in his cap and have more ammo to talk shit to Floyd about if he wins. If he loses, its just age catching up to great fighter.

My first thought is to pick Mosely. But each time Cotto is tested he has risen his game and something tells me he does it again here. I am picking Cotto by SD. I see many momentum shifts and a few kd's in this fight and could easily be a FOTY candidate. I think Cotto's relentlessness wins the fight for him.

The last guy Mosley stopped at WW is Adrian Stone. Apart from that he stopped Vargas, once because of a ridiculous swelling in a close fight and the second time because of a beautifull counter over Vargas's lazy jab, but IMO it was an aberration, not a sign of things to come. I'm surprised most, if not all, that pick mosley think it will be via stoppage... Mosley can't really punch nowadays. If he wins, it will be by decision IMHO.

One thing is sure, if Cotto wins this one, he'll certainly be a candidate for fighter of the year. Quintana, Urkal (gimme), Judah and Mosley in a year span would be a very impressive string of victories IMO.

good post. I tend to want to sway torwards Mosely's experience getting him a win by decision, but its not like Cotto is a rookie anymore. Cotto just keeps coming, and he rarely sways from his gameplan. The only thing I see that might be a negative for Cotto in this fight is he will have to keep a high workrate all 12 rounds. Not that he won't be in condition to do so, but he hasn't really been a fighter who fights like that.

If that happens, Cotto's one YEAR will shit all over Zoo's entire career!
    Go Cotto!
Mosley is too old and will lose by KO.

The one thing Shane has that Corley and Judah didn't have is the mentality to viciously attack when he's got you hurt.

If he stuns Cotto, the fight is over.

The reverse could also be true of Cotto...as much as Shane wouldn't like bodyshots, Cotto wouldn't like them either.

I like Shane early, but Cotto as the fight goes on.

I don't know who mentioned him first, but beating Judah, Urkal, AND Quintana and Mosley in ONE year will be more impressive than anything Zoo has EVER done. Nice, huh?

I can prety much guarantee that Mosley will be the stalker and aggressor in this one after Cotto eats a few hard counters and uppercuts when he's charging in with no head movement.

Cotto will look like a human Pez dispenser.

Musze, your love for Mosley clouds your judgement. Cotto didn't get discouraged by Judah's hard counters, who punches undoubtly harder than Mosley and who's certainly just as fast. Also, Cotto was caught by uppercuts from Judah, but uppercuts coming from the southpaw stance after a side step, something Mosley won't be able to do as efficiently since he's orthodox. And, Mosley doesn't move his head a lot either so, I think he'll be there to be hit too, it's not as if he was a defensive wizard. The more I think about it, the more I think Mosley will lose and I'll be here, with a freshly cooked crow for you my old friend once the fight's finished.:stir:

I can definitely see that scenario. Always been a Mosely fan, and have been a Cotto fan for a while as well. This is a great test for both guys, a great fight for boxing as a sport, and a great night of entertainment for us:bears:

I am going with my gut though. I think it will be a case of "Out with the old, In with the new". Cotto is going to be a huge star in boxing in the very near future.

Cotto would undoubtedly be the favourite in Vegas. And probably should be...given that he's young, undefeated and Shane is in his mid 30s. But among the hardcore fans, Mosley will be slightly favoured IMO....if only for mainly sentimental reasons and nostalgia.

I would lean towards Shane...but Cotto should win.

    Mosley is no Judah.

Everytime Judah threw hard shots he hit Cotto. If Mosley is one thing, he's consisent.

cotto will be the aggressor on this fight. he will pressure and mosley will try to use his legs. cotto will easily cut that off and it will be a war with cotto outworking him when mosley is looking to tie up and rest.

What do you mean "no and no". Put down your Shane colored (American spelling) spectacles and think logically:

Cotto is young and undefeated, and looked like a MACHINE in his last couple of fights. Shane is considered past his prime.

The oddsmakers would undoubtedly make Cotto the favourite, albeit a slight one.
