The problem is with the word itself. "Great" means different things to different people and imo it's overused. It doesn't have to be Joe Frazier, but if one were to make a list of fighters with great left hooks how many guys would they rank ahead of Cotto in that regard? Even with a subjective definition of great if you can put together a list of 30-40 guys with a better hook it beings to gets harder to call it great.

No, but I might through it around colloquially like people do when it come to all sorts of things. As one example if I was watching boxing with a novice and Cotto was being introduced I might say his opponent has to watch out as "Cotto has a great left hook".

Similarly I might say to somebody at a restaurant "you should try the wings here, they're great".

 

I'm not sure.

As far as GGG goes I couldn't even tell you what his best punch is. As I've said in other posts it's what makes him so highly effective.

 

I was about to post exactly what whiskey just did. Gaybox doesn't even really have a best punch, pretty much every punch he throws is his best punch - and that is indeed what makes him so good.

Wlad's hook is more like a jab/hook. There's nothing textbook about it and it's not like a Joe Frazier hook.

The top notch Mexican fighters often can't spell jab and end fights with left hooks to the head and especially to the body all the time. They rarely get mentioned as having the best hooks, however. I'd be surprised if fewer than 5 of the 10 best left hooks aren't Mexican punchers.
