I would have the same opinion. I am very objective with Puerto Rican fighters. I am not a fan of all PR fighters. at 140 i was actually more of a hatton fan than cotto. But no way Hatton beats Cotto. Cotto has too many tools to beat him, including heart.
Because after Tszyu it's really irrelevant on both sides. He swings it in Hatton's favour. I don't think anyone other than you would disagree.
You're forgetting that Cotto was rocked and dropped by guys like Torres and Corley. He was very fragile from draining to make 140, his legs and chin were both weak. He looked a lot stronger once he moved up to 147. No question in my mind that Cotto is the better fighter, at 147 he kicks the shit out of Hatton. But at 140 Hatton is able to exploit the vulnerabilities that arose from Cotto's struggles to make weight.
The guy who went 11 rounds without being visibly rocked vs Tszyu has the suspect chin in this match up; not the guy who did a funky chicken rendition against Demarcus Corley
Fragile because he was dropped? He got up and went on to drop those people. Both were stopped by Cotto. Chop Chop had never been stopped before. Hatton has been dropped by lesser fighters.
No worries. Basically, the fact that Hatton fought (and beat) Tszyu means he fought a higher level of competition at 140. Tszyu was much, much better than anyone Cotto fought at 140. So much so that even if Hatton didn't fight any other decent fighters (he did) you'd have to tip competition in his favour. Tszyu is one of the best ever at the weight.
True but Tszyu doesnt equal a bunch of good fighters combined. Especially an old Tszyu. Cotto's resume at 140 trumps Hatton Sosa Ndou Pinto (undefeated) 21st fight Bailey Coreley Torres (undefeated) Branco Malignaggi (undefeated) Maussa (undefeated) 18th fight Who does have Hatton have Tackie Phillips Tszyu Urango Maussa Malignaggi
He has Tszyu. Honestly, a win over Tszyu is worth as much as Cotto's five best wins. Tszyu, old or not, would have mauled all those guys.
Sorry i dont look at things like that. If Hatton went in there and actually showed he was clearly better than Tszyu and there were no questions, maybe you have a point. But Hatton was allowed to illegal hold and lay on Tszyu all night. He was John Ruiz in there. Boxing is as black an white in there. That being said, Cotto's resume at 140 trumps Tszyu's record too. WHat has Tszyu done to make you think his name trumps everyone on Cotto's 140 list?
You counting castillo is ridiculous and you know it. But that being said, what makes Castillo great in your eyes?
Why, because you've decided he was shot? With the same whimsical disregard for evidence you bring to most your opinion making. What makes Castillo great? Nothing. What makes him very good? The fact he proved it against very good fighters again and again and again only 5lb south.
We are talking 140 here. If you want to bring in someones greatness from 135 and apply it 140 is ridiculous. He had done shit at 140. He fought twice there and lost once i believe. Lost shortly after that hatton loss too at a higher weight.
I'm just clearing it up. You were speculating about Castillo's fights and I was chiming in. Besides, Ngoudjo was really no better or worse than most of Cotto's best wins at 140. He was that level of fighter.
Torres only meaningful win - a come behind Ko win against Kendall Holt - avenged one fight later. Kelson Pinton lost to a 500 year old Vince Phillips 2 years after Ricky hatton cremated his corpse. Not a single meaningful win. Corley would lose 8 of his next 11 (& Cotto still dropped 4 rounds to him). Randal Bailey his only notable win. Cotto's only other 140 win worth mentioning - Mallinaggi, who Hatton beat far more convincingly. :dunno:
Anthony's my boy, but I've gotta bail once he steps it up a notch and says Cotto had a better resume than Tszyu at 140.
