Cotto vs Margarito II Finalized in MSG

It amazes me that Mosley was able to stop Margarito. He REALLY put a beating on him. That was Mosley's last great performance.

 

It was a great performance! I loved every second of that fight. I still remember Margarito smiling early on when Mosley landed on his chin, I said to myself Mosley is fucked. :laughing: Glad I was wrong and the bastard took a BEATING!!!!

 

Pretty decent case for the prosecution, IMO.

Also, after the fight, Margarito shook hands with the wraps on in the ring.

 

Look, I'm the first guy that says Margarito should be banned for life because he tried it once. Fuck Margarito.

But it's common knowledge that Margarito partied hard after beating Cotto, and was very heavy going into camp for the Mosley fight. There was plenty of incentive for Marg to cheat for the first time against Shane.

 

these fellows have zero evidence of margarito cheating prior to the mosley fight. purely circumstantial.

lujan came into margaritos camp and sparred with him plenty after that fight. doesnt sound like a guy who thinks his opponent cheated and committed a crime against him

 

Being a good juror means that you let someone off the hook if there's a shadow of reasonable doubt, even if common sense seems to dictate and/or you personally think they're guilty. But this isn't a court of law, so common sense and what we personally think is actually relevant.

The Lujan example is kind of meaningless because a) Lujan got paid to spar with Margarito, he didn't do it out of the good of his heart and b) nobody knew Margarito was cheating until after Brother Naazim caught him. If Cotto were a journeyman fighter who'd endured that beating at the hands of Margarito, he probably would've gone back and sparred with him too.

The point is that Lujan's personal/professional behavior doesn't really mean anything in terms of exonerating Margarito.

 

the point is the people accusing margarito of cheating in all or some of his fights have zero evidence, and it means several different state commissions and a dozen or more trainers were all incompetent.

 

The court of common sense doesn't require you to be innocent until proven guilty. Margarito fucked up and cheated, in the worst possible way. Boxing fans aren't going to give that piece of shit the benefit of the doubt anymore than a caring parent would hire Casey Anthony to babysit their kids.

The part in bold is easier to believe than it is to dismiss.

 

If I remember correctly Team Cotto was NOT present when Marg was getting his wraps done. It was a error Miguel admitted. Not sure where I read that at.

 

I agree there isnt evidence of Marg cheating prior to the Moskey fight. However something to to take into account is the blocks on his wraps had stains of old blood as well.

 

I'd be very surprised if he didn't cheat in the Cotto fight. Very surprised. He should have been banned forever, though, and I hope upon hope that Cotto hands Marg a life threatening beating

Seems that way, historically, the Duk Koo Kim incident and what followed from it {Arum demanding a moratorium etc} shows this guy up to be a chancer.

Fight should be made at 147 with Cotto pounding on a critically weakned Margarito from the beginning.
