Acrobatic gravity defying dueling kung fu swords epics! Which one slays the other?

    Hero?

I was more impressed by 'Hero' than by 'Crouching Tiger' since I found the plot of 'Hero' more interesting and visually was more gorgeous with all the different color palettes for each duel. At the time the duel between Jet li & Donnie Yen was a martial arts fan wet dream. While I liked 'Crouching Tiger' on first viewing, on a second viewing I got kind of bored in the non-action sequences (which was about 80% of the film). Is a good film, but was extremely overrated.

CTHD all the way. It’s one of my all time favorite films and it’s just a beautiful movie with awesome fight scenes.

Lol, I have to say...I tend to agree with xplosive here. I can't tolerate these silly film which feature unrealistic acrobatics ( and flying) and tedious 1000 strikes choreography

You need to appreciate it for what they are within the context of the Chinese culture. Your response is similar to those who can't stand scifi or superhero films since 'they are not real'.

The thing is...with Superheroes you know you're dealing with Superheroes...which are not realistic by definition. So that's fine. Same with Sci Fi. But with these Chinese flicks...you're supposedly featuring normal people and they're doing all kinds of madness. But even that aside....don't you find the flying around and 1000 strikes tedious?

Sly, you must choose an Ang Lee movie to watch for the rest of your life - CTHD or Brokeback Mountain?

Yeah it had its moments but isn’t an overall great film or very rewatchable. I usually hate the wire fights too but CTHD didn’t really use it in their fight scenes. Plus the story is amazing and to be honest has some of the best fight scenes of any film since Bruce Lee IMO. I mean the green destiny sword against all the other weapons in the dojo fight was incredible. CTHD is probably in my top 5.

The CGI was only used to erase the sight of wires. Nothing else had cgi.

I said they didn’t really use it which means not much. That shit in the trees wasn’t really a fight scene and the part on the wall was during a chase scene. I actually thought the wire scenes in the film were pretty cool because like I said it wasn’t really used during the fights.

To be honest nobody abused wires like Jet Li which is one of the reasons I find Jackie Chan’s fight and films way better than the garbage Jet Li has put out over his career. Name me one good Jet Li movie that’s worth a rewatch other than maybe Hero.

The remake of Fist of Fury (Chinese Connection) was great.
