Tim was at or near the top of the UFC ranks for over 6 years. He beat Ricco in 2002 I believe it was for the title. He was in the top rung of the ranks all the way up to his loss to Noguira in 2008 I think it was. That spans around 6 years. F*ck Tim Sylvia but I'll give him credit for what he's done in the UFC.
I wouldn't exactly call what Morrison did 'MMA'. The fight wasn't allowed to go to the ground, and knees, kicks and elbows weren't allowed. So pretty much it was a boxing match in a cage with fingerless gloves. TFK
Yeah I know, I read all about it. But I still wanted to see it. He had to basically run out of there cause the crowd was red hot pissed for some reason. I heard Morrison whacked his opponent pretty good in the face, smashing his nose.
you can see a clip at a hair before the 2 minute mark <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/US26DbzomYM&hl=fr_FR&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/US26DbzomYM&hl=fr_FR&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
There's a BIG difference between Ray Mercer, a longtime heavyweight powerpuncher, and James Toney, a longtime middleweight/supermiddleweight who ate himself to heavyweight. Toney had more skill but a fraction of Merciless Ray Mercer's punching power. That said, Ray was fighting Tim Sylvia, who was 70lbs over his best weight. If James can land flush, Randy could get embarrassed. Randy is likely to keep his hands high and shoot for the takedown. Even at 46, Randy is way more mobile than Tim Sylvia ever thought of being.
I'd actually take the twenty-something Tim Sylvia of 2002 to smash today's Randy Couture. Randy's chin looks really bad. Much worse than even 2 years ago.
So says Ray... Curious how he knew to tap if it was stand up only. And he didn't utter one word of protest in the cage that night. Believe what you want, but it didn't look like he felt set up.
He looked like he was about to hit him after the fight was over, that means he was pretty pissed to me
ass kicked ??? Mercer probably take more punishement in a routine light sparring session than he did in that fight
Dude the whole 'set up' thing is utter bull shit. In fact go watch the fight. Mercer actually initiates the first clinch and tried to choke Kimbo first. Ray was pissed because Kimbo held onto the choke after the ref tried to stop it. Ray got overwhelmed, and yes, got his ass kicked. He took punches, knees, elbow and then got choked.
I laugh when I hear that "set up" bullshit line:: It was an MMA fight. Not boxing. If Ray wanted to fight Kimbo in boxing rules he should have made it happen. Garbage ass excuse.
