Dave Meltzer is basically ''The'' reference when it comes to ppv numbers in combat sports (pro wrestling included). He's been around s long time.

 

Simply brutal... no one expected this to be a financial success or even coming close to breaking even but 5k is way worse than anyone imagined. Definitely hurts Crawford in future negotiations with Spence imo. Supposedly, it's only ''TV'' buys but the aggregate outcome still looks unbelievably bad.

I just cannot believe any serious person would put that kind of money for this train wreck. And pure fools don't usually have 10M+ dollars laying around. Cannot help but wonder if there is something fishy going on (some type of money laundering scheme for example, but this would need to involve Crawford, which is dubious) or if it was some kind of gimmick to promote the event (i.e. Crawford made much less in reality).

 

Yeah 5k buys is simply insane. Hell, thats the kind of numbers id expect for a bikini boxing event, not one of the top p4p fighter in the world.

Must say thats its kind of weird how unpopular Bud is. Yeah i know he comes from a hole, and he's not charismatic at all, but still, hes a fairly exciting fighter, especially recently

 

It's mainly because people simply don't know who he is. You don't have to be De La Hoya or Mayweather to sell a PPV but it helps when your opponent is also and unknown.

And if you're not a casual fan why would you actually pay to see it? To me it actually brings the question as to who the 5000 sells went to. Were they sports bars that just buy every form of fight card help on a weekend?

 

this is good news. as fans, we should be glad a ppv like this failed miserably. it will hopefully lead to less of them.
