Mid 80s Curry vs mid 90s Ike. My feelings on this matchup have shifted. I used to say Curry would have picked Ike apart, but now I dont know. I feel like Curry's wide, gunslinger stance would leave him directly in the path of the Quartey jab, and his tendency to pull straight back would get exploited by the Quartey cross. Its a styles thing, as I think Curry was better than Ike. I mean, he was P4P for Christ sake. Quartey never even made top 5 P4P. But, I think Ike might be wrong for Curry.
Curry looks good in the beginning, but ike jab would take his toll in the middle rounds, and the right hands would soon follow. I dont trust curry durability enough to see him winning this
Curry would be best served to take this fight inside. He was a very good infighter, whereas Quartey couldn't infight at all. At distance, the matchup favors Ike.
Curry would try and counter Ike's jab and would then revert to the inside when it has no effect. Ike would out-muscle him and start to wear him down, even if he's losing the rounds because he was pretty poor up close. When it gets back to a ranged battle, Ike's jab takes over and at some point, he starts landing his back hand. Curry gets worn down and stopped IMO.
Curry definitely LOOKS better, but the intangibles and styles favors Quartey. I think Quartey’s jab is one of the major keys and he’ll consistently bust through Curry’s high guard with it. At some point he’s going to find the range for the right hand. I see Quartey stopping Curry late while being down on the cards.
