I haven't played the full game yet, only the demo, but I have to say, I don't like it.

Feels clunky and awkward. I much preferred the pivoting/head movement in other games, and I preferred the blocking/parrying in other games too.

Blocking is easy, yet somehow the games feels harder to play or get into than the others.

Plus the power punch modifier is borderline useless. The start up speed and velocity of the extra power shots are crap. They should be fast and explosive, but just use more stamina.

I disagree. I think this game is far superior overall than any of the previous versions. It's not perfect, sure, but it's the best for many reasons:

    1. The new total punch control (whatever they call it now) allows for HOOKERCUTS and many different other punch types they didn't have in the game.

    2. Punching is more customized now. Before you only had a max three styles of PUNCHING...now you have a great deal of options

    3. each punch in your repetorire is more customizable now

    4. The AI is more customizable also

    5. The POWER punches (with the power modifier) are not SLOW telegraphed punches anymore. They are damned fast and realistic looking.

    6. Tyson and Ali are rendered PERFECTLY in this game.

I'm loving it. I even forgive them for the auto-block button.

    I'm addicted. I couldn't disagree more.

I love the various punching styles. Love the in game action. Tyson and Ali are rendered PERFECTLY (looks and fighting styles) as is pacquiao..in fact practically everyone is...but those three stand out for me.

Love that the referee is in the ring.

Love how when your stamina goes down you're more likely to get hurt.

Love that he haymakers are just as fast as normal punches (if not faster at times)..but there's still a cost to throwing them. That's smart.

    I'm addicted.

To each his own. It really is one of the worst things I've ever spent a few hours doing. Fucking time suck garbage. It's as if there isn't single person at EA that has seen a boxing match before.

The last straw is how glitchy it is. All my wins on my career are by KO (you can't stick and move and expect to win rounds)... but I have four losses because if you have a fight scheduled for the first week of January (which happens often for some reason) the rest period coming off of training doesn't work. So you go in with half stamina and there's nothing you can do about it.

Then the game froze after I won a title belt. And when I turned it back on, it said my file was corrupted and can never be used again. I looked it up online and all these problems have happened to a bunch of people.

So I ejected the game and destroyed it. I'm not joking about that.

    I feel your pain.

I haven't played career mode yet so haven't experienced all of that.

Try putting hours into a career, getting fucked by game flaws along the way, but winning the title regardless - only to have it all taken away in a split second.

It wasn't just the fights either. You HAVE to train, you can't skip that shit.

This hasn't been my experience so far (and maybe career mode is different)...but I was using Ali and playing against Frazier in Exhibition mode on G.O.A.T. level and it went the distance.

I was trading punches with him for the first three rounds and I thought that perhaps i was up two rounds to one. Atlas' unofficial cards had Frazier up 3-0 after the first three and so I changed my strategy to one of sticking and moving and counterpunching. I ended up Dropping Frazier a couple times on route to a close unanimous decision in a very satisfying battle.

GREAT GAME if you ask me!! :bears:

There's a reason my boy Mike has been ducking this thread like the plague since this game came out.

It's just so frustrating to see power levels so far off yet again. I put Frazier away in the first round using Ali. I had Duran out cold on the canvas in the fourth round using Whitaker. Liston didn't make it past two against Holyfield. That's sad.

Also, a near deal-breaker for me is that I fooled around a bit with FNR3 last night, just as a refresher, & for comparison. You can box your way to a carefully-crafted shut-out or handsome decision, stick & move, or overwhelm the guy with raw power. It just isn't possible to do the former anymore, especially in Career Mode. Gone are the days where you could build up multiple champions, some movers, others, punchers. Not being able to skip training is also a pain in the ass, for sure.

I'm not ragging on everything in the game. These are just the major issues I have a problem with.

FNR3 feels slow, that's my main complaint with it, but overall the core mechanics are much better than FN4 and FNC imo, feels more like boxing.

Boxing is not hard in FNC I was able to outbox the likes of Marciano with Rahman of all people, with a 9 point overall differential

No way. Round 3 had potential but it sucked with those ridiculous big slow knockout punches. Also I liked what they tried to do with the various punch styles (like judge jab etc)...but they didn't refine is properly. Basically a judge jab fighter need only jab and he'd win a fight easily.

Fight night champion is where's it's at! They are ALMOST there with this one, IMO.

It seems I have a 74 created boxer limit, every time I go over that limit a boxer gets deleted :dunno: I thought the limit was 97 created fighters, WTF happened?

I finally gave in and bought the game a couple of days ago. Of course, I regret it. I've liked every single game in the series thus far except this one; this is such a horrible turd that I can't bring myself to even consider it mediocre.

    Issues with the game -

Autoblocking. Obvious. The most comical and frustrating aspect of this is that the CPU basically decides which punches get through your guard for you, apparently at random.

Lack of feints. This was absent in FNR4 as well, and obviously in this horrendously dumbed down piece of shit there wouldn't be either.

The controls feel very disconnected and imprecise, there is no feel of a connection with the fighter's actions on screen and your controller moves as there were in previous games. The controls are generally awkward and sloppy.

Hitting someone with the jab - or any other punch - doesn't disrupt a fighter's rhythm in the least. You can smack someone with the jab in the middle of them setting to throw and their punch will complete and land. The jab is basically useless.

The referee consistently obstructing the view in Champion Mode view to the point where it is absurd, and you wonder how retarded the entire development and design team at EA had to be to let this pass by. You literally can't see shit but the referee's back 50% of the time in the Champion Mode camera angle. Changing the camera angle makes this less of an issue, though of course the referee is still hopping around the screen like a retarded cricket on crack. And why should I have to change from Champion Mode view in Champion Mode?

The new punch controls - Before, you had button mashing. Now, you have stick mashing. Throwing punches with the stick is exactly analogous to button mashing now. It's horrible.

Commentary - Another area where EA basically "phoned it in." Much of it is the exact same commentary from FNR4, and the same issues persist from FNR4 that there was basically no excuse for not fixing - eg, half the time the commentary is completely unrelated to what is actually going on on the screen, and half the time the commentary is vague and you have no idea which fighter they're referring to.

In conclusion, the game is a giant, hopeless, steaming pile of shit. If this game were a boxer, it'd be the love child of John Ruiz and Hector Camacho Jr. I can only conclude that EA Canada knows dick about video games, and even less about boxing.

    Won't buy this. Sounds awful.

Maybe I'll pick it up preowned in a year for $20.
