mikE it's really quite simple. I love boxing, and the more good fights I watch, the better. But I'll take one good, compelling fight between top notch fighters over 5 shitty, boring, predictable matchups without hesitation. I would think it was the same for most of you too. Quality over quantity.
Sure, but I don't think the mid-90's HBO really provided this. As usual, no one has put up. List the 94-96 HBO fights and we'll compare. The nostalgic boost will give the mid-90's most of the top 10 spots, but the volume and decent quality of the past 3 years will give current HBO a great majority of the next 40 spots. And 15 years from now, 09-12 HBO will be seen as crushing 94-96 HBO. I would also point out that your point is to look at it from the view of the matchup and not the view of hindsight. I think that is the better way to do it, but I do not expect you or any of the usual suspects to stick with that viewpoint because it will work against you.
btw, while I didn't really care too much about Foreman Moorer, it may be the #1 overall fight of these 6 years. I found this http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1996-03-22/sports/9603220061_1_boxing-hbo-sports-pay-per-view: George Foreman versus Michael Moorer boxing telecast drew 25.5 and a 39 share. Viewership isn't necessarily the best way to do this since the eras have differences, but it's going to be indicative of something worth considering if put into the correct perspective.
This is always your "out", no matter how contrived and silly it is, which is why arguing it with you is pointless. This your constant agenda.
All I know is I liked Boxing way more then than now. It is an opinion. My height of boxing was diminished once they made guys like Barrera and Morales ppv guys. Midgets will never advance the sport. That is why the ufc ELIMINATED THE ENTIRE MIDGET CLASS. I predicted this demise. It also seems to me that undercards were way more exciting. jIM Lampley has said on air that Kirkland/Angulo should have been PPV because it was so good. Implying that the regulAR Hbo should be less than great. I am just not excited in watching many fighters anymore. Back then there were 10-12 Now I like Bam Bam, PACMAN, I MEAN JUST TO WATCH. As a kid, I would watch Arguello, Mancini, later Norris,Julian Jackson. Seem to be less kayos too. I don't dispute more or less shows. I just remember tuning in on random nights and watching Tua/Ike and Ike/Byrd just loving it. That rarely happens anymore.
