Tua is desperately overrated. He always has been. Ibeabuchi, another "Go to Jail or Die Young" legend, beat him, Rahman, Maskaev were both en route to beating him- Rahman was nailed after the bell in Florida back in the late 90's. Rahman dropped his ass the 2nd time but they called it a draw......then Byrd beat him, Lewis beat him..........and Monte Barrett probably beat him.

A one armed no-jab dude with a decent punch and an overrrated chin. He was also blasted out by Savon in the Ammy's. Lewis really should have taken him out, he had the power and the range, but I guess it got so easy coasting that he said "fuck it" and continued to tattoo the Maori Mess.

Holyfield would have been too mobile, savvy, fast and skilled for a midget oaf like Tua.

You definitely have problems if you're getting outboxed by the Hasim Rahman's of the world.

As a sidenote --- that's a clever signature you have there. How's something like that made?

What the fellow in the scooter throwing the bananas?

I stole that, from another website. It's called a "gif".....files of that nature end with the nomenclature of ".gif"

Go to google and type in "gifs" or "gif images" and you should fine one which suits your own tastes!

Not sure how they are made, basically it is a conversion from a video file, which would require loading or streaming, to the .gif format, which allows for immediate viewing without requiring the viewer to click or to actively load it.

His chin was overrated? He spent years on the end of bigger heavyweights' punches and you use a result in the amateurs to make the point?

Makes me think it wasn't that good of a point to begin with.

    And a "decent" punch?

David Izon(ritei) also beat Tua in the amateurs.

Speaking of amateurs... i am very surprised to see any boxing fans at this forum use amateur and sparring results to determine anything in a boxer's pro career. Talk about amateur, we're gonna start judging fights solely based on cuts and facial damage next. Fuck what's the point... we don't need to see the fights let's just look up the results on boxrec, that's good enough.

    what's the world coming to

To be fair, the shot that Hasim felled Tua with in their rematch also came after the bell, and did not affect the scoring of the fight. Rahman was about 30 pounds overweight at the time, though, and he did box circles around Tua for most of the 12 rounds. Robert Grasso should have been shot for scoring it 116-112 in Tua's favor.

Evander will keep on fighting after the Vitali defeat, he has to.

He is in desperate need for cash with all of the child support and alimony he has to pay out, the doctor he was married to literally wiped him out, as one person noted, every day for her was a shopping adventure at the mall.

All Evander knows how to do is fight, he is not articulate and does not have that bullshit personality to make a nice living commentating.

He did a tv spot here in Houston for a local company, and it was embarrassing to watch as you could barely comprehend what he was saying.

He can't be a pitch person for corporations as others, like Rocky Marciano and Lennox Lewis were/are.

He lost his companies and car dealerships, and I don't see him opening up a profitable business enterprise, such as a big restaurant like Jack Dempsey did, either.

From what I hear, he has income tax issues as well, so it would not surprise me to see him going and going, perhaps dying in the ring as he cannot stop as his support core and finances have been depleted.

He still has his home..for now, at least.

    I wish him well.

Ah well. He at least had fame, money and glory at one point in his life. He'll continue boxing and enjoying what he loves. He never wanted to give up boxing even when he had all the money in the world. So it's hardly a case of him continuing boxing because he's forced to. He'd keep boxing right now even if he still had all his money I bet.
And on the bright side, he's still EVANDER HOLYFIELD! You can't ever take that away from him. Everybody knows the name "HOLYFIELD!" Not the greatest but a guy who brought it every time. Respect!!! Don't know too many boxers in history who gave us as many action-packed fights as The Real Deal!

That is about as intelligent as your initial post referring to one of the great heavyweights ever as a "clown."

I'd like to see you say that to him.

I personally do not like the guy, and I know him, but I would never say some stupid shit like that about him.

How could you not like Holyfield? He was one of the biggest stars in the 90s. An action-man, never in a dull fight. Heart of a lion!

How could I not like him?

I am not speaking in terms of his in ring accomplishments that you describe Hanzy, I was referring to personally meeting him and knowing him, and IMO, the guy is a jackass.

Well....that much is obvious considering the pickle he's in right now. If he wasn't a jackass, he'd be much better for the wear. What are some of the things during this meeting with him that made you dislike him(besides the obvious that I mentioned)? Did he bring up any of that bible stuff? Talk about needing to be heavyweight champ of the world again? Give some details, Stinger!!! :kidcool:

The only thing I will say Hanzy is that he was cool to me the first two times I met him, and one of those was a video for fightbeat, and he was an asshole the next two times at the Oquendo and Maddalone fights.

He was defensive as he knew I was a former fighter and got very guarded and distant when I questioned him in terms of technique, and when he saw me a few years ago at Savannah's he gave me the cold shoulder before the Maddalone fight, and I am not the only one here in Houston that had a problem with him.

He is an asshole in person if you don't suck up to him, but if he deduces that you know what you are talking about, he will give you the freeze, which was OK with me.

Fuck him as a man, but I wish him well as the Ultimate Gladiator of his generation.

Here is what I went out of my way to write about this asshole, and he shot me and the rest of the media the cold shoulder, AND I PREDICTED HE WOULD BEAT FRES OQUENDO WHICH HE DID!

His punch was good but who did he stop with it? An green Maskaev, and he needed lots of them, and a green Ruiz. He had an excellent left hook. Happy?

As a young man his chin got found out. Guys rarely get blasted out like that....Davarryl Williamson did, by Savon, and he showed a similar chin in the proze.

As an older guy, he physically matured, and took some shots better. However if you study his fights- take the Byrd fight, you will see him being routinely discouraged by fast lefts that he didn't see coming.

Rahman and Barret plain had the man down. And Lewis completely discouraged him......he got very honest very fast against Lewis. He basically game quit in that fight, so chastened had he been by the power of Lewis.

People have this impression of him being a guy who lost fights because he was out of condition. His punch didn't stop everyone it hit and he could be hurt by smaller lighter guys.

How many punches did it take for Shannon Briggs to stop Darroll Wilson?

    It took Tua one.

The reason why people claim he lost fights because he was out of condition - if there are those people, I'm not one of them, but Tua clearly didn't himself the best opportunity to win by putting on the extra weight - was because he wasn't big enough or skilled enough to outbox most opponents, he needed to hurt them, knock them down or knock them out, and to do that he needed to hit them, and given his size and skillset, the best time to do that against some of his better (and taller) opponents was often later in a fight, when they were more tired, maybe their hands were lower, and defense not as sharp...which is why after the early knockouts of Ruiz and Wilson, opponents became very aware of his left hook, and why it took him until the later rounds to KO guys like Izon(ritei), Maskaev and Oquendo.

It may also have something to do with Tua being much more active when he was trimmer...as shown in the Izon(ritei) and Ibeabuchi fights, which set (thrown) punch-stat records for 12 round heavyweight fights (I believe).

As for the Rahman knockdown, Tua again was punching Rahman after the bell...he'd became desperate enough late to at least try for the knockout, opened himself up badly, got caught with a short punch and stayed on the canvas for all of maybe 2-3 seconds.

You are just a little shit typer, nothing more.

You and other little worms like yourself are going to continue to do what you do, never having the balls to try it themselves, or to get involved in the sport on a first hand basis.

Calling one of the greatest heavyweights a clown..you say that to his face.

Holyfield was the first fighter to ever have a medical staff behind him, and he is the one that basically introduced steroids into professional boxing.

He had a physician, a nutritionist, a chiropractor, a strength coach, a bodybuilding coach (Lee Haney) a ballet coach, and went from a sleek physique in the 84 Olympics into the corded man of steel body in just 4 years, it was so obvious it was ridiculously clear to see that he was on the juice.

But that does not take away from the fact that Ring Magazine ranked him Number 3 All Time at Heavyweight, even though I question the credentials of the people that write for that fish wrap as the large majority of them have no experience.
