Only cos it's been done on a sub-US$100 million budget.
It'll probably just about make that much US-domestic.

Is that referring to Dead Pool, Dark Magus, or both?

Nah, it looks very annoying and very contrived.

And as I've predicted months ago, will be Marvel's first 'Fail'.

    It's a fucking Marvel character.
In my book, that makes it a fucking Marvel movie.

    Fuck Marvel and fuck Fox.

It's not. It's in the same boat as X-men and Wolverine.

Nope. Because in that case there has been several failures and then you are still wrong. Going all the way back to Howard the duck

This film is getting mad great reviews! Currently with 100% perfect score at Rotten Tomatoes, Entertainment weekly calls it 'The World's most vulgar, violent Bugs Bunny cartoon', it also states that the film is the most weird you'll ever watch: like a Looney Tunes cartoon it has no conventional plot...it is basically two scenes with some flashbacks and lot of nonsense filling the rest, but extremely funny, violent, irreverent nonsense. It doesn't attach to conventional superhero films stereotype of an evil villain wants to destroy the world and the hero needs to stop him. No. Is just some beef between Deadpool and his enemy over a stupid name-calling. That's it. That's the plot! Hilarious!! Maybe some other critics will trash it because of what it is and some audience members expecting another X-Men film will be disappointed, but apparently this can be called the very first comicbook adaptation that had the balls to be 100% faithful to its source.

    Can't wait to watch it!

Exactly. And for the reaaons you posted above is exactly why it won't be a massive box-office success.
It doesn't have broad, general appeal like other Marvel Movies (or Marvel-based movies)

The most-recent trailer (you know, the one that doesnt resemble any of the others because of all the late re-shoots/re-writes), is just fucking irritating.

    That's it - it's a total Marvel-Fanboy's movie. is this.
1 - Rated R so that's a huge chunk % off your normal Marvel movie audience.
2 - Hardly anyone knows who Deadpool is.
3 - Given what Panchy said above about it being 'weird, no real plot' and full of irritating Ryan Reynolds one-liners...another load of people wll be put off.

The biggest Marvel-Fox movies out there are X-Men, (and even then, the earlier ones) which are amazingly identifiable and a hit with younger people and families.

Deadpool is neither and will probably crawl to US$100mill at box-office....tops.

It will definitely be a tough sell as it is being described as a very hard adult R-rated film with one movie critic that, while praising the film, warned, 'leave your children at home even if they like Deadpool". So it will not have a $100 million opening weekend, but the studio is aiming for a $60-$80 million opening. In fact the studio is so confident that it has ordered a sequel. I don't see this movie flopping at all and will make more money than 'Ant-Man'.

    1 - No, I meant 100 million total.

    2 - How? :scratcher:

You've contradicted yourself with the 'tough-sell' comment.

Tough sell in the sense that families will not be running to watch it as it is in '50 Shades of Gray meets Hostel' graphic mature depictions, but then those films made a gazillion at the box office too. Not an impossible goal, just not an ease one.

Number of people who have heard of Deadpool: Not that many.
Number of people who had heard of '50 Shades Of Grey' before the movie came out: Errrr....quite a few.

In its opening night overseas Deadpool racked over $14 million and is expected to gross at least $80 million this weekend. Studio predictions are putting it at a $60-$65 million opening weekend domestically even though neutral analysts are less conservative and place it on the $70-$80 million range. In all this is great news for the $58 million film, probably one of the lowest budget superhero films in recent memory. According to Fandango 'Deadpool' is their #1 advance tickets seller this month and is outselling 'Ant-Man' around this exact timeframe before its debut.

If those figures are achieved then you have to applaud it, given the awareness of the character with the general public, it's marketing (hardly seen any) and it's rating.

And especially when the shit Zoolander No.2 is far more well-known and has had tons more hype.

I think the marketing was pretty good. More than Revenant and Hateful 8 probably biggest campaign since star wars...

    EAT CROW, DARTH MOCUS!!

DEADPOOL shattered all expectations with a February record breaking $47.5 million on Friday and is now expected to leave on the dust the All Time February top grosser "Fifty Shades of Grey''s $93 million weekend record as the Merc with a Mouth film is now headed to a smashing $130 million this weekend!!

    Complete anomaly.
No idea how or why. :dunno:

And even the experts are unable to fathom its success either.

Deadpool character is the most famous Marvel character among Millennials. Its merchandise sale has rivaled those of Spiderman among this generation (my daughter had a Deadpool sweater years ago even before I knew who he was, but she bought it because among her crowd anything Deadpool is cool). I told you that there was no way this movie will bomb.

Just as I was 100% wrong about its gross - I don't think anyone expected $US135million in weekend #1.

    Hence all the headlines...

It’s the biggest opening weekend in 20th Century Fox’s history, bigger than any of the prior X-Men films and larger than any of their six Star Wars entries. Regarding comic book movies, it’s the seventh-biggest such debut of all time, behind only two Avengers films, two Dark Knight pics, Iron Man 3 and Spider-Man 3. Concerning non-sequels, it’s right between The Hunger Games ($152m) and Man of Steel ($128m).
