Serious question...do you think if Marquez had the option before the fight of Mayweather coming in at 144 or at 146 and the money, he'd take the lower weight?

Agreed! I hate to say it but I see PBF outclassing and shutting down PAC midway through the fight and stopping him. Easy fight for PBF. He's just too talented.

Agreed! Right now the only fighters with a chance here is Cotto or Mosley. But even that is very unlikely. PBF may shut them both down.

Then why wasn't it negotiated that way?

Mayweather could've weighed-in as much as 147. He could've been 5 pounds heavier than Marquez was at the weigh-in.

i'm not sure what the contract said about the weight...but hbo and marquez said Mayweather had to weigh 144...any pounds over that would cost Mayweather 300K each pound...i guess Mayweather didn't care about 600K..and knew that Marquez and company would not cancel on the fight...

Not Sure about YOU, but REED was Actually INTERESTED in What Floyd had to Say...Max was Guarding the Microphone like it was his DICK & Got a Case Of PENIS ENVY when Floyd Snatched it from Him...Bottom Line, NOBODY Really Gives a Fuck about Kellerman's Post-Fight Thoughts, Especially if/when it's @ the EXPENSE of the WINNING FIGHTERS Post-Fight Thoughts...

Whether Floyd is a "Brat" or Not that was HIS Moment...

yes. I would take Mayweather over Leonard and Benitez. I havent seen enough Robinson full fights to determine that matchup.

Mayweather is just as quick as Leonard, has better footwork and defense than Leonard. The only advantage Leonard has is power and I think he would have a hard time finding Floyd to hit him flush.

:atu: Leonard has too much speed and power for Mayweather and Leonard throws too many punches. Mayweather has look great fighting guys that are not as fast as him...he look great vs. Hatton and Marquez, but not so hot vs. an old DE LA HOYA who still had a bit of speed and a jab......Nacho could not help Marquez..but he was right...if you only throw one or two punches at a time..Mayweather will beat your ass...but throw 3,4,5 punches in combination he can't block/roll all of them.

Schaefer said that the contract that was signed in May had a limit of 147, but with penalties for every pound over 144.

REED IS Applying the "Styles Makes Fights" Axiom, Mr. FEEBLES...This ISN'T an Ali-Foreman-Frazier OR Hagler-Hearns-Duran Scenario Because in REED's Opinion, Floyd & Marquez R More SIMILAR Stylistically than the Fighters in those Other Instances...

Marquez TROUBLED Pacquiao Over 24 Rounds w/his Precision COUNTERPUNCHING, Ability to ADJUST on the Fly & Superior BOXING Skills (To that of Pacquiao's)...If ANYBODY Could Replicate the Blueprint that Marquez Used to ARGUABLY BEAT Pacquiao TWICE, it's Floyd Mayweather...Floyd has the SAME Skillset as Marquez (BETTER, Actually), w/BETTER Defense & More SIZE...

As U've Noted, Marquez COULDN'T Put a Dent in Floyd & As Such, Floyd DIDN'T Rely on Footwork Quite as Much as he Customarily Does...Against the Harder Punching Pacquiao, he Undoubtedly Would...Aside from 2 Out of 24 Rounds, Manny WAS NOT the Consistently Maniacal Beast Against Marquez that he's Been Against Everyone Else...Based on that, REED Sees No Reason to Think that he Will B Against Floyd (a BETTER, BIGGER, More Technically SOUND Fighter All Around than Marquez) Either...

agREED that it's SAD Floyd has Neglected SEVERAL Top Welters, but he'd Still Have to B a SIZABLE Favorite Over ANY of them...

Here's the Thing, Mex...Pacquiao has NEVER Faced Anyone like Floyd...The CLOSEST he's Come is Marquez, who Quite Simply IS NOT on Floyd's Level...Floyd Brings the Skillset of a Marquez w/MORE Athleticism & RING INTELLECT...Pac's NEVER Encountered that B 4...

Sure, Pacquiao's a More DYNAMIC Fighter, but Floyd is Sooooooo TECHNICALLY Sound, REED Doesn't Think he'd Find it Terribly Difficult to OFFEST Pac, Much as Marquez Did...Floyd ISN'T Gonna Foolishly Try to IMPOSE Himself on Pac Physically...He's Gonna BOX him just as he's Done w/Everyone Else...

Isn't the boxing world getting a bit ahead of itself? Like some posters here? The "last performance" overrating is in full swing here. As Floyd's performance go, he looked good but not great despite having advantages in every physical category you can measure.

Also, as I have pointed out previously (and others have posted similar thoughts), the JMM fight again really says nothing about Floyd Mayweather as a welterweight (and paying $$$ because he can't get below 146 is a welterweight). The keys to beating Floyd lie in having the size to close distance (reach), apply a bit of pressure, and to reasonably weather Floyd's punches. It is all size related.

JMM's performance represented what an excellent small fighter, without one-punch KO power, can do against Floyd. Good counters, good defense, popped Floyd with some good punches, but ultimately lost a lopsided decision. This is why virtually everyone on this board picked Floyd, and why he was the betting favorite.

So why would this fight change anyone's view of Floyd, unless your main concern was ring rust? Pac has an almost perfect style to beat Floyd, and the JMM/Mayweather fight does not have any bearing on that. Pac certainly still has a decent shot at beating Floyd. But Floyd is sneaky in who he picks to fight, and how his contracts are worded, when he retires and un-retires, and in every other way I can think of. Picking Pac as an opponent again gives Floyd the primary advantage he needs, and gives him lots of it - and that's SIZE.

It's very simple. Be a "welter", and pick the game's elite fighters who simply do not belong in the ring above jr. lightweight. This does NOT mean these fighters cannot compete at lightweight or even above. It simply means that for every pound over that limit they go, they LOSE ADVANTAGE, while their opponent GAINS.

This is what makes a Mayweather/Pac fight such an uphill battle for Manny. But this is also why I think people are really jumping the gun on saying Floyd could beat SRR, SRL, Mosley, Cotto, (even Margarito) or frankly anyone else who fought comfortably at WELTER. It is a completely different game - completely - when size related measures are equal or favor the opponent.

If Floyd beat Cotto, Mosley, and maybe one more X-factor welter.. pick Margarito or Clottey (or Paul Williams if he'd come back down) or someone in that category... I think that ices him as one of the best, ever. But I just don't think we will see any of those fights. It will be Pac next if he beats Cotto, and then we are going to again see if another excellent smaller fighter can beat the odds and come up and beat Floyd.

I understand what you're saying, but it's not like Mayweather's fought that many southpaws in his career, and he hasn't done so in a while...and two of the southpaws he fought, Corley and Judah, both had him in a little bit of trouble.

Mayweather eventually beat both handily, but Pacquiao, with Roach in his corner, is certainly a tougher opponent than either of them.

Mayweather, as he's gone up in weight and age, has really become a much more cautious/economic fighter, who's gotten away with relying heavily on his reactions/reflexes and counter-punching (primarily with his left hand) bigger and slower fighters.

Mayweather is faster than Marquez, but Marquez was still a featherweight/super featherweight when he fought Pacquiao...there wasn't as much of an adjustment to Pac's speed/compactness at that weight class.

If Mayweather-Pacquiao happened when Mayweather was still in the lighter weights, it'd be one thing, but Mayweather is in his 30's, and he's been off for a bit and used to fighting welterweights. There'll have to be an adjustment for him against Pacquiao at whatever weight it's at.

Dunno about him beating Judah handily,.. from memory he lost 1,2,4,11,12 plus was knocked down,... that was embarrasing.

Judah was on his way to getting stopped before the bullshit started.

The only real 'trouble' Mayweather might've been in late in that fight was whether or not he was gonna get DQ'd.

JMM certainly troubled Pac, but what Pac always had in reserve was the equilizer in his power punching. Even though JMM quite honestly outboxed Manny for large parts of those fights, he couldn't beat him, mainly because Manny kept knocking him down.

Pac is super, super fast- arguably as fast as Floyd IMHO and the only fighter on the planet who might be so. Moreover, he has freakish power and the truth of the matter is that Floyd's chin is still an unknown tangable. JMM might have lain the blueprint, but he has such a tremendous fighting heart and re-couparative power that he could fight through Manny's bombs yet he still couldn't beat him. Can Floyd react the same if Manny hits him? We simply don't know, because no-one has really tested that chin in a way that Manny, with his incredible speed and power, will do and because Floyd does so much to avoid being hit at all.

IMHO there is no way on earth that Floyd will be able to prevent Pac hitting him for twelve rounds. This isn't Hatton, JMM or a shot Oscar we are talking about here- this is a ridiculously fast and aggressive guy we are talking about who appears to be getting better and better rather than regressing through the weights and with age.

If Floyd can deal with the power, then he beats Manny. That is the key factor IMHO.

That's NOT True @ All, Mr. FEEBLES...Particularly in their 1st Bout, Jose Luis Castillo hit Floyd FLUSH Plenty of Times...Chico Corrales Caught Floyd FLUSH 1nce or Twice in their Bout...Ditto for Dela...If NATHAN Else, Zab Judah can Punch...He DRILLED Floyd in the 1st 4 Rounds of their Bout, but All he Did was Make Floyd's Glove Touch the Canvas 1nce...

Floyd's Faced & Been HIT by Punchers in his Career...His Chin is DEFINITELY SOLID...REED Thinks the Combination of Floyd's Chin & Defensive Wherewithal is MORE than Enough to Beat Manny Pac...

He got wobbled by Demarcus Corley a couple times in their fight...in the third and fourth, I believe...one from a straight left, the other a right hook.
