The old go to death, death comes to the young. What a career he had, in such a short time period. Will never forget his junior lightweight days, or that first battle with Castillo. RIP.
""I had a lot of admiration for Diego Corrales and his mega-fight against Jose Luis Castillo deserves to be ranked among the finest of all time. He was my kind of fighter, a fighter's fighter." Ricky Hatton
Damn, that sucks. I always liked Corrales. I even got to see him kick the crap out of Angel Manfredy live. I know he did some bad things in his life but he always struck me as a good guy.
That’s terrible; in a way I feel like a jerk now for disliking the guy. RIP Chico – I hope his family can keep it together in these difficult times
I have a SUGGESTION for Jose Luis Castillo who fights next month. REMEMBER Chico with a head banner or a black strip on his robe or something like that.
Whatever about personal opinions about the guy, the boxing world is poorer without him in it-at a time where there is so much calculated risk and cost-benefit analysis associated with matchmaking, he stood out as a reckless tough guy who loved the sport and fought as much for the fans and adulation as the financial benefits....he also left behind three youngsters, hope they're provided for somehow...
many may not like him outside the ring, but he's dead. and as somebody in someplace has said, any loss of life is a tragedy. this is a real sad news to the boxing world. may he rest in peace. my condolences to his family.
That fucking SUCKS, i wake up turn on ESPN and there it is "Breaking News" im like WTF??? Gotta say, that is sure a morning spoiler when your drinking your cup of coffee very sad indeed. RIP Chico. & Thanks for the fights you gave us.
On a message board especially where we're all safe in our cozy little bedrooms and offices with not a worry in the world of any kind of backlash. I hear ya! Better to save that sh*t for a hate thread, not a thread like this.
I feel truly badly for his family. His ex-wife had a kid from him not too long ago, and now that kid has to grow up without a father. I hope that they can find peace at this difficult time. It is a tragedy when a parent is taken away even if you don't approve of them. I didn't approve of the man as a person, but as a fighter he was the definition of guts even if his chin let him down. The man was a heck of a competitor and he was involved in one of the most exciting fights of all-time. Take care, Chico. You were an exciting, gutsy, emotional warrior in the ring.
I don’t know what he got up to outside of the ring but I know I enjoyed watching his fights so as a boxing fan…R.I.P Anyone who feels the need to criticize some guy that has pass away really needs to get a refund from that shrink.
As for criticizing him about domestic abuse: 1. Let him without sin cast the first stone 2. None of us were there...some women lie about that shit or deliberately provoke their men (with violence or serious disprespect)..just to get a reaction, so they can call the police. It's wrong to make judgement, unless we are God.
As for the abuse, I have only heard about it on here, who knows what goes on in a persons home life. Im not excusing abuse but Im not going to judge the guy either.
Some of us never hit our wives, Sly. Plain and simple. As for making judgement, that's what judges do. We do, however, make character assessments based on accounts of the events, and there is nothing in this world that could make me drag a pregnant woman down the stairs by the hair of her head. By all that stuff is neither here nor now. A man has died, so we should all keep it clean. Like Mitch Halpern used to say, "Keep it CLEAN, GUYS! Keep it clean!"
1). I cast the first stone. I've never raised my hand to a woman in that manner. 2). It was pretty obvious what he did. he didn't deny striking her, but he denied holding a shotgun on her. I don't want to bring up the past since Chico is gone, but his death doesn't erase what he was in life. A thrilling fighter, with serious demons. That's not judging him, it's a fact regarding who he was as a person.
Wow....I'm shocked. Terrible loss for boxing. He'll never be remembered as an all time great, but he gave us some all time great moments. TFK
Me neither...but I asked...who is without sin? We have all done bad things in life...should people speak about us this way when we die also?
It's sad that you're automatically assuming that she did. He assaulted a pregnant woman, Sly. The only way to know for sure is to check the police report. I'm going by what was reported in the news, and there WERE witnesses!!!!
This isn't the thread to argue about this Sly, but I'd ask you to reREED your post. It specifically references domestic abuse THEN makes the statement about "who is without sin." The way it's written, it sounds as though you're saying that domestic abuse is commonplace or acceptable. That's why I responded the way I did. Based on his response, it's obvious Buddy interpreted your post the same way I did. Perhaps you should revise your statement.
You didn't know the guy personally or what went on in his house. Better to just judge him by his boxing career and leave the personal shit out.:dunno: Hell, how do WE know that you didn't beat the shit out of some bitch? You're probably a liar but nobody cares at all, since you're a nobody in this world just like the rest of us.
