2 years ago he gave us one of the greatest fights of all time...in a sport increasingly becoming more of a business all he wanted to do was fight... a true warrior

    Rest In Peace

    Toll the ten count

A tragedy of unspeakable proportions for boxing.
Diego is not the first fighter to go out on a motorcyle, Young Stribling was killed riding one to see his new baby in the hospital, and James "Black Gold" Shuler also met his demise at the hands of a bike shortly after losing to Thomas Hearns.

Truly a sad day for the sport. I loved to watch him fight. Great warrior who didn't calculate before taking a fight, a rare quality nowadays.

Sad and shocking to have this staring me in the face as soon as I logged on this morning.

    R.I.P. DIEGO CORRALES.

And thanks for a bunch of fights that I won't soon forget.

I hope the IBHOF inducts him in.

He'll get in, but he's not a first ballot guy. Maybe on his second or third time.

Personally, I don't think he should get in. Corrales was a good fighter, even very good at one point, but the guy was never a great. On the other hand seeing how this is the IBHOF he'll probably get in. Boxings Hall Of Fame is a joke for the most part. Fighters like Zab Judah and Arturo Gatti will probably make it in as well.

Wow...I'm traveling and just read this.

    I'm in shock.

Certainly one of the greatest warriors of our generation. May he rest in peace.

When I saw people with RIP Diego signatures in othe rthreads, I thought they were joking about how his career was over. I can't believe it, he was only 29.

I agree with you, it's a horrible tragedy, but he shouldn't get in just because he died young, and honestly, his career was not HOF worthy.

I don´t know, he was the undisputed lightweight champion of the world. He had many memorable fights and he holds wins over the best fighters of his era Castillo, Casamayor and Freitas. Only Floyd he couldn´t touch. :dunno:

One of my favorites. I've not been in a happy mood today.

He died two years to the day after his biggest victory.

Sal got it in a Porsche head on with a truck.

The fight with Nelson proved to be Sánchez's last. As he was training for a rematch with Laporte set for September, he crashed on the early morning of August 12, 1982 while driving his brand new Porsche sports car, dying instantly. At the time of his death at 23, there were talks about a rematch with Gómez or a challenge of world lightweight champion Alexis Argüell

I understand why people say they didn't like him as a person, but imo he came across as a very sincere, very cool guy every single time I've seen him interviewed.

I found it a lot easier to like him as a fighter after he got thrashed by Floyd, not because I thought he 'deserved it', but because then he wasn't so overrated by Max week in and week out.

Guys who say uncategorically that they wouldn't hit a girl probably just haven't been around enough girls (or didn't have sisters). I do think most of us would never hit a pregnant girl in the belly, as Corrales allegedly did, but I never did hear his side of the story, only that there was another side to the story.

His first fight with Corrales was simply an amazing fight. Everyone knew it at the time and that sentiment hasn't wavered at all. It's a fitting testament to why we are all boxing fans.

This sucks! I can't believe it! I woke up this morning and tuned to espn news and the first thing I always look at is the breaking news section. When I read that Boxer Diego Corrales dies it ruined my day. It took a while to sink in. What a loss for boxing.

Muze honestly you are an intelligent guy so I know you can see that the issue is the timing not the comments. Strange glove, who says a lot of smart things when he really wants to said it best... "it is too early for that shit."

If I make a comment about Marciano and Kennedy both being in the same flight club... well it isn't insulting and hurtful because both the Kennedy kid and Marcian died a while back.

Sometimes a community has to close ranks and support people who were part of the community with no judgements. And sometimes discretion, not censorship is what is asked of people.

I used to think Rubio was quite amusing in his own way, but after this thread it's obvious the guy is a genuine scumbag. There's no 2 ways about it.

I think he should be IP banned, it would be absurd not to. Do you really want a scumbag like this on the site?

True. But everybody is some kind of critic around here, judgemental as hell, despite a lot of the guys on this board getting into trouble with the law a sh*t load of times and then coming on here and bragging about it.

I don't know about that. What exactly is a HOF worthy career in boxing?

It's not like the standards are high.

That's overreacting. Sure he was an attention whore in this thread but it's not like these comments are e-mailed to Corrales' wife or something
