Disney did it again. Finding Dory topped the box office charts with an impressive $73.2 million weekend gross which ranks among the top 10 all time best second week earnings ever, better than 'Captain America: Civil War' with just a 45.8% drop. This is the twelfth time in 26 weeks of 2016 that a Disney film takes the #1 spot at the box office. 'Dory' has earned so far $286 million domestically and over $400 million worldwide in 10 days.

Debuting in a distant second place and bombing miserably is the costly $165 million sequel Independence Day: Resurgence which grossed less than the first one did 20 years ago. By taking only $41.6 million we can confidently add this title to the list of big budget flops of the year. Now its only hope remains that the international numbers can save this fiasco from sinking Fox after two big financial failures in row (remember 'X-Men: Apocalypse'?). Somebody pray for this studio...heads will roll tomorrow.

In the third place Central Intelligence took $18.3 million for a two weeks cume of $69 million.

Debuting in the fourth place with better numbers than expected is the critically acclaimed low budget 'shark thriller' The Shallows which took $16.7 million, twice of its original forecast of $8 million opening. The Blake Lively film was also well received by audiences and word of mouth will help it stay afloat and survive the summer's big budget movies onslaught.

Rounding the top five is another box office disappointment as Free State of Jones opened to much lower numbers than expected. The $50 million budget period piece grossed only $7.7 million and will not be able to recoup its investment.
