In my view, boxing is actually giving us many free fights. Boxing fans are just becoming a wee bit spoiled. Check out how many quality free-tv fights you're seeing from boxing this year alone, coming up. Hell look at the previous years. What did you have in 2003-2006 right off the top of my head? Lewis/Klitschko? Hatton/Tszyu? Mayorga/Forrest? Mosley/Wright? Taylor/Wright? Pacquaio/Barrera? Toney/Jirov? Corrales/Castillo I? Brewster/Lyakhovich? Mormeck/Bell? Klitschko/Peter? Many World Championship fights!! Look back and take notice. So many free fights and all most of you do is bitch and complain. All you needed was a subscription to HBO or Showtime. Now this only applies to Americans. Canadians on the other hand had to fork over a pretty penny since many of HBO and SHowtime fights are either not shown or are carried on canadian ppv. But you americans got it better than us. So quit your f*cking whining!
Nobody's asking you to fork over $30-$40 for every f*cking fight show the way the UFC, Bodog, King of the Cage, K1 and countless other MMA shows are doing.

It ain't better being an mma fan than it is being a boxing fan unless you have Free to Air receivers going with your satelites where ultimately money is void and entertainment is completely free.

i agree. i think what makes a month-long stretch of no big fights so hard to handle is that we're used to having so many. so i'm with you. the more the better. and in recent years, it seems like there's been more.

The UFC has 1 event per month, and a free 'Fight Night' show on Spike consisting of lesser fighters once every 3 months. Bodog has a ppv once every 2 or so months. King of the Cage is just crap, nobody even bothers with that bush league junk.
I just don't see the argument here. People are bitching over boxing's dry spell when any other sport has the same thing going on. What happens when the NHL's season is over? Or the NBA? Or MLB? Do people just give up on the sport?:dunno: Do they have such a craving that they need to see this crap day after day?
You're right though, boxing fans are so used to having so many fights. Especially for us when we come to this board and having nothing to discuss. But we still have a mythical matchup section where we can dream about bullsh*t.

well. i started the thread. so i feel obligated to reply. i know it sounded like i was bitching. and maybe i was. but the thread isn't meant as an indictment of the boxing powers that be. it's simply to point out that for the time being, the party is over. that's all.

I'll never understand how you can consider these 'free fights', as such. No. They're part of your cable bill, some of which can be excessive. They just don't charge you twice for it.

If Anthony Peterson is boring, then there are very few fighters who aren't. He's an aggressive, hard-punching fighter. The fact that he's had to go the distance at times just means he's human.

good point. this is what makes PPV frustrating; the fact that it costs money above and beyond dollars we're already spending. it'd be different i guess if the "free" shows were actually free, and were shown on public TV.

    What happens on June 7th?

    Personally I'm looking forward to 5/26, 6/2, 6/9, 6/16, 6/23, etc.

This weekend is the only real dry spell and we've got MMA to fill the gap..

Exactly. I have paid roughly 30 Euros on boxing in the last ten years, TV and Live events. If I had to pay for Free-per-Views I wouldn´t watch boxing. :dunno:

I think Cotto-Judah will absolutely be competitive. In fact, as the fight draws closer I may pick Judah to win that fight.

I've always picked Judah. He's going to get a lot of Johnny-come-lately picks from people saying, "Judah KOed Spinks while Taylor was lucky against him."

I was more looking at the matchup and thinking Judah can exploit Cotto's weaknesses... or at least replicate the things that have gotten Miguel in trouble in the past.

This probably deserves its own thread...

Judah has not won in over 2 years.

He lost to every elite fighter he has faced at least once and lost to some non-elite fighters and got lucky on others .

    KTFO by Zu
    Dropped and humiliated by Spinks.
    Humiliated by Floyd.

Judah was dropped by Spinks. And for 9 rounds he was pretty much humiliated. It was only after Spinks got tired that Judah didn't lose rounds decisively.

Of course I did. Spinks had Judah terrified for the first 4 rounds. The middle rounds were close and Judah was fresh because he didn't do anything for the first 3rd of the fight. He then got dropped by one of the weakest punching titlists in history and lost although he did manage to hurt sTINKS late and drop him. Judah got flat out humiliated in the opening rounds. How much worse does it get then to be scared to engage Corey Stinks.

Judah won the fight. Spinks had him in trouble early, but he came on in the last 2/3. I could accept someone saying that Spinks won, but "humiliated" Judah? That's almost as stupid as when you started calling Floyd "Lance" Mayweather.

Being dropped and terrified of Corey Stinks is humiliated. No way did Judah win that fight. If I remember correctly, he did nothing for the first 4 rounds just gave them to Stinks and then he battled back and then was dropped by one of the weakest punching titlists in the ENTIRE HISTORY OF THE SPORT. HUMILIATED.

That's stupid. He came off the canvas to arguably win the fight.

By the way, why did you stop calling Floyd, "Lance" Mayweather?
