WHat Mayorga had going for him before Spinks, was an aura of invinsibility. Or intimidation. A guy who instilled fear. Huge power, ungodly chin. Blah blah blah. That a mincy little faggot like Spinks could tool him, changed all of that. He's never been the same since.

Right, I never saw the fight, but from what I read Spinks barely got by Mayorga. I dunno how true is that. But post-Spinks pre-Trinidad, Mayorga could take it to the chin. Since Trinidad, DLH Koed him like he'd KO a 12 yr old teen. I know Mosley could KO him now, but pre-Tito I don't know if that was possible.

De La Hoya is a big puncher though, man. He always has been. Oscar's left hook (even now) might be the best punch in the sport. Better than Trinidad's, thats for sure. Tito has two fisted power, but Oscar's left hook is a thing of beauty.

No shame in being KOed by him, especially when Oscar hit him with every punh in the book and got him with shots he had never saw coming.

Some call it stupidity or bad match making

but i call it balls. it takes courage to fight a guy like margarito twice. Especially after the first fight's outcome. Credit the guy for his bravery.

I don't believe Cintron-Margarito was bad match making,

Even though I picked Margarito to beat him again I respect Cintron for making the fight and at least trying to redeem himself.

Is not like Cintron didn't do anything after his loss. He came back and became champion at 147. Putting him in the picture for big fights at 147.

Meaning sooner or later he would face Margarito again since he is also one of the best at 147. You have to look at the landscape of big fights and add that fighters are supposed to have confidence and pride.

What is the point of Cintron fighting if he is gonna avoid Margarito at the top of the 147 division? If not Margarito sooner or later other elite fighter at 147 would beat him.

Cintron simply isn't as good as the top guys at 147 but he had to try it and I respect him for that.

Normally fighters get dissed for ducking challenges. This guy try to redeem himself and gets ripped for it?:dunno:

Yeah, Oscar's shots were accurate, and his left hook is deadly, but he's not been known as a big puncher at 147 and above... and to KO Mayorga in the first round, I'd have to give credit to Trinidad for "softening" Mayorga with that violent beating he gave him, rather than giving credit to Oscar's left hook power. It's hard to gauge how impressive are Oscar's KO's of Mayorga and Vargas for the same reason, since both fighters were know as hard-chinned before facing Trinidad.

I don't really agree. I still think Mayorga is 'hard chinned', but Vargas? What punchers did he ever face, that DIDN'T hurt him? :dunno: Hell, it's not like Vargas was some rock beforehand. Hell, he'd barely even been tested, yet had still managed to find himself stunned or hurt a few times.

Spinks beat Mayorga by a pretty wide margin. IMO it's one of Spinks' most impressive and best performances of his career.

The only bad matchups are ones that are competitive. All fighters should be trying to fight the best to prove themselves.
