Something just strikes me that Ennis is harder to beat than Lopez. I'm not sure if we see Fimo tested anytime soon though, because I consider Josh his only threat from 135-140, and its looking more likely that we see Crawford-Taylor than Lopez-Taylor.
Seems like the least likely would be Spence or Ennis vs. Ortiz. I could see G B P andd TR possibly working something out for Crawford/Ortiz, and a remote chance of Crawford/Spence if enough people clamor for it. But can't see G B P and PBC getting together. And can't see Crawford going out of his way to face Ennis. What Ennis should do is take short money against a Porter or Thurman (although I doubt Thurman would take the fight), and then force the top guys' hands by dominating him like none other.
Ennis is hungry enough to take short money and fuck Porter up. Thurman? LOL. Keith is basically retired. He just talks at this point. I doubt we'll ever see him in the ring again. What would be a good matchup for Ennis is Prograis. Regis is good enough to let us know if Ennis is REALLY the goods. I doubt we see it, but I guess it's possible.
You're RIGHT... What's Problematic is Ennis PERSONIFIES "High Risk/Low Reward"...Talented as he Is, Dude Ain't Drawing Shit OUTSIDE of Philly Right Now...Doesn't Have a Presence w/Mainstream Black Urban Audiences the Way Tank Davis, Adrien Broner or Shakur Stevenson...Not YET, That Is (It's Coming)... There'd Be a Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge Promotional LOSS on Porter vs. Ennis Anytime in the Near Future....Porter Got $1.2mil for the Formella Fight...He'd Want 2wice That Amount for Boots Ennis, Minimum... Boots Would Literally Have to Fight for $50k-$100k to Make it FEASIBLE, Which Would Be IDIOTIC Considering Porter is One of the TOUGHER Fights to Be Had @ '47... Your Point STILL Stands Though... REED
I mean, I HOPE its coming... recognition from the black community, I mean. It helps that Gillie Da Kid is always promoting Boots on social media... Gillie is a huge presence in Hip Hop... at least here on the east coast. I hate to say it, but Black ppl are drawn to AB, Shakur, Haney, and Tank because them MFs are asssholes. Boots is a good kid, and that doesn't always translate in our community, sadly.
Horrible Matchup for Regis, Stylistically...His ONLY Advantage Would Be Experience, Literally, Which Isn't TANGIBLE... Boots is the Same Height as Josh Taylor, Looooooooooonger Reach, BETTER Defensively, HARDER Puncher & MORE Athletic, Fully Acknowledging Taylor is VERY Athletic Himself...Boots Would Fight SMARTER Than Taylor as Well...Taylor is a BRAWLER @ Heart, He Just Learned to BOX Along the Way... Regis Has Little to NO Chance of Beating Boots Ennis...It's an 80-20, Maybe Even a 90-10 Fight in REED's Opinion...Based on STYLES and the Discrepancy in HEIGHT/LENGTH... REED
Ohhh I agree. I'm a big Reg fan, but I think Boots would beat the fuck outta him and Taylor. Its just the next logical step up, as Prograis is a level above Lipinets.
Prograis would also give us somewhat of a guage for how Ennis fares versus the TOP level... cause if Boots aint ready for Regis... he ain't ready for EJ and Bud. I would actually give Prograis a decent shot of upsetting Ortiz. Ennis, as REED said, is a nightmare for him.
Black People Are Drawn to WINNERS, Ultimately...Just Like Any Other Race... Roy Jones was COUNTRY AF When it Wasn't the Least Bit COOL, Rocking a Fucking SHAG 8-10 Years BEYOND its Shelf Life...Yet He Eventually RESONATED w/Brothers GLOBALLY... No, Boots Ennis AIN'T Roy (Never Will Be), But @ the Same Time, Boots is FROM an East Coast City Which Still MATTERS...REED Hates to Admit it, Living in the SOUF', but it Still MATTERS... & SIMILAR to Roy, REED Thinks the LEVEL of Boots' Performances Will RESONATE On a "DAMN! I Wish I Could Fight Like THAT Dude" Level...A Person That NEVER Watched a Boxing Match in their Life Could SEE Boots is a Gifted Fighter... Ennis Rocks Arguably THE Flashiest In-Ring Attire in the Game Currently, His Name WILL Start to Be Mentioned in Rhymes Before Looooooooooong, and His Level of Recognition Will INCREASE Within the Black Mainstream... It's COMING Bruh... REED
I would be interested in Prograis vs Ortiz. Hooker touched Ortiz up enough that Prograis would represent a hard fight for Vergil. Ultimately, Vergil's firepower is probably too much for Regis in the end. Regis admittedly does not have much chance against Bud, Spence, and Ennis. I would say the exact same about Taylor at 147. Depending on how he handles Ramirez, he might be a threat to Ortiz, but I dont see him beating Bud, Spence, Ennis.
I love Prograis, but I think he should stick to 140. He's better suited to the weight, stylistically, and the competition is much worse. Prograis would beat guys like Porter, Ugas, Thurman etc; but just won't be able to mix with the very top guys, despite being incredibly talented.
I dunno about Porter. It pains me to say this, as I love Reg and despise Porter, but I see Shawn being too strong/relentless for Prograis. Prograis would beat the brakes off the current Keith Thurman. I dont see Thurman being able to beat anyone good at this stage.
That would be my hope, but I don't see it. If Porter can push prime Thurman and Spence into difficult fights, then I don't see Reg just having an easy go of it. Being realistic about Prograis, he's not as good as Spence and prime Thurman. It's possible Porter could slip though, as he's no spring chicken and he has a young man's style. Both at their very bests, I think Porter is too strong for Prograis.
I got around to watching Connor Benn fight. He's alright. Not bad like, "This kid can't fight for shit." He's a bit better than that. However, he's absolute food for Ennis or Ortiz. They both dispatch of him early-to-mid.
I think the attraction of guys like Tank, Haney and Stevenson is that they've made it out but still living - acting - like they haven't. People see them doing 'gangster' shit but also balling and think that they're just one of the guys but they've who made it out and made more cash than most people will ever see. When people grow up, their taste will as well. If I could wave a magic wand and make things happen how I'd like, I'd say that I want Spence vs Crawford this summer, with Ennis and Ortiz stepping up to fighters like Mikey Garcia and Keith Thurman, then for Ugas to have his belt taken by the Spence-Crawford winer. I want Ortiz and Boots to both fight both guys, because that's good to compare and will be good fire to fuel the rivalry they'll eventually have. After that, I'd like them to either fight the loser of Crawford vs Spence, and Porter. I feel like the winner of Spence-Crawford by this point is worthy of an easy fight, given that they'll have just become undisputed and beaten back-to-back champions. After a soft touch, the belts will probably split (this would likely be early-mid 2023) and Spence and Crawford will be getting on a bit. I think once the belts split, Ortiz and Boots get to fight for them and then unify. That way, everyone gets the fights they want and both Boots and Ortiz are fully proven and deserving for their massive superfight. Also, some of those fights are mouthwatering IMO. As for Porter vs Prograis, I disagree about Thurman being better than Rougarou, and I never said it'd be easy. I think stylistically, Porter plays into Prograis' hands because he's very aggressive and open. I think RP basically just let's porter come to him, jabs at arm's length and lights him up at mid-range. Porter's inside game is pretty bad IMO, nothing but holding and occasionally bodyshot.
To me, Benn is euro level and will probably stay that way. Not a dig, it's a very good position to be in and be so popular. I think he'll make for some very, very fun fights.
Thurman had a disappointing career, but yeah I do think in this prime, which was like 2013-2017, he was better than Prograis. I think you might be overrating Regis' ability if you see him "lighting up" Porter at mid-range. I would like nothing more than to see that, but my head just sees Porter roughing up and outfighting the smaller man.
I think he wants to go back down, he hasn't said anything about fighting the top welters, and is still calling for a Taylor rematch.
Only way I see Reg getting a Taylor rematch is if Josh loses to Ramirez. And even if Taylor does lose - depending on the circumstances - it might mean a Ramirez-Taylor rematch. If Josh beats Ramirez convincingly, then I think Top Rank's focus becomes Crawford v Taylor. The odds of Taylor-Prograis II ever happening are extremely, extremely slim.
Much as I suspected, the newspaper talk this week regards Conor Benn has been steadfast in its refusal to discuss Ennis. Spencer and Porter are mentioned like they were distant projects All the emphasis is on Khan
It will be noted that of the 5 [Porter, Bud, Spence, Khan and Broner] , Khan and Broner are the weakest by far. It tells you a lot about boxing today when a guy is literally dismissed as an opponent on the grounds that he's *too good * won't earn the loser enough money. And that's what the papers are saying over here. Conor Benn needs to avoid the European champ cos he might lose and not earn enough money. They couldn't be more explicit- he is to be managed with kid gloves. Broner next.
Khan and Broner are both TOTAL bums at this point. I would expect that Connor beats both. Not because he's good, but he has two hands and throws punches... that'll suffice in beating the current versions of Khan and Broner.
Spence could train for 2 weeks, come into the ring totally shitfaced, and still massacre Benn. I think George said it best that Benn should just be utilized as a domestic attraction. If he's able to land a fight with the shell of Khan, then good for him. I don't see anything in him to suggest he'll ever hit elite level.
I hope it happens. Khan has a new reality show over here called "Meet the Khans" or "At Home with the Khans" or "Out Cold with Amir" or some shit. He's beyond boxing. I can see him lose to Benn and then get arrested on some sort of dementia-related domestic abuse charge. He should stay out of it. He's got plenty.
