Benn was limited, sure, but he was one seriously hard-hitting fucker and to beat him you had to be able to survive the incoming and hurt him back. No blown up welterweight was beating Nigel Benn at 160. He'd have KO'd Canelo in three rounds.

man, can someone tell me what's the narrative on canelo. Half of the time, he was a humongous jmw that only had success cause he was so much bigger than his opponets, and the other half, he's a blown up welterweight

He's a career welterweight who uses the time between weigh-in and fight night to put on a lot of extra weight. Nigel Benn was a career middle/supermiddleweight who probably weighed about 170 of pure muscle on fight night.

I think the guy wasn't even 20 years old when he was doing the WW limit. He might be smaller than Benn, but the difference is marginal

Canelo's as much a welterweight as Roy was a junior middleweight. I personally didn't say he'd lose to Benn cause he's smaller.

But what IS relevant is, Canelo has knocking out naturally smaller guys. Benn was a lot bigger than Kirkland, and Smith. Khan, that's not even worth mentioning... Khan's a natural JUNIOR WELTERWEIGHT.

For once Jesus the mongrel is correct. Alvarez was never really a welterweight. He's a middleweight who was young enough to cut to 154 for a few years and a bit below that briefly

I fully agree with both of you. Canelo's a middleweight. So when Golov beats him next week, I don't wanna hear any Ginger fans claiming that Canelo lost cause Golov was too big.
