We do know that Floyd began his pro career at the end of 1996 and by 1999 he was rejecting a 6 year/$12.5 million dollar contract as slave wages, though.

 

Oh. I guess then it's more like if a fighter had a good amateur career, then went on to play football and a fake sport for a while, then started boxing and was a champion within 3 fights.

 

Its the entire atmosphere that gets me. Its clownish, overheated and boorish to the extreme. There is no real class or grace to it. It seems to attract door-men, bouncers, muscle-freaks, street-heavies, martial-arts instructors, that sort of thing. It attracts a particular crowd.

I am not saying there is no skill to it, of course there is- and lots at that. Nor do I want it banned, moderated, or altered in any way.

Its just two dudes, with their hands up, appeals to me a lot more than two guys trying to get each other in headlocks, or break the other guys skin. In boxing, nobody sets out to cut somebody. It happens, but its not the aim. In the MMA, cutting the guy open, choking him into submission, breaking his arm, kicking the legs out from under him, is not just a means to an end, it is the end itself.

 

Not to mention Lesnar won the title via one punch KO.
