Yup...that's been my sneaking suspicion ever since I heard of this even remotely happening.

Either that...or they are going by the Tarver and Johnson fights and thinking they can spark Jones Jr. with one shot (which is the wrong thinking for many, many reasons). I find it a stretch to really believe they'd legitimately think that...

Then again, the Trinidad camp was quite delusional leading up to the Hopkins fight post-Joppy, so....

    Peace.

.......and down goes Jones...on a haaaard left haaand (part deux)

Looks like most of you have more faith in Roy's chin than I do. I'm sorry, but it's hard for me to shake that image of Roy getting dropped by Glen Johnson like he got got hit in the face with a sack of bricks. Fighters rarely recover from KO's like that, especially at nearly 40 years of age. I say if Hanshaw or Ajamu could punch, they would have done KTFO too. I think Roy will do well early against Tito. Sooner or later he'll get clipped on the chin and that china will shatter into shards.

    Tito KO early to mid

Anthony Hanswhaw can punch. He's a KO artists at 175 pounds.

I don't have much confidence in Tito's power at 170 anyway,.

More like a shitload of doubt about Roy's chin.

It doesn't take a whole lot of "wading" to get Roy these days, as Prince Badi Ajamu and Anthony Hanshaw both showed.

He aint exactly feather fisted, but the boy is far from a "KO artist."

I don't have much confidence in Roy's chin at any weight.

The fight taking place at 170 is a question mark for both guys, especially for Jones IMO. He hasn't fought that low since 1996. His legs and punch resistance might be weaker.

Actually, I hope it is, because then maybe we'll get a more competitive fight.

Still, I'll say that Roy's performance isn't overly compromised making weight and gives Tito an ass-whooping.

Tito hasn't fought in 32 months, and he looked horrendous the last time. He hasn't been the same mentally since Hopkins beat him, IMO. Roy obviously is far past his prime too, but at least he's been semi-active and beating fringe contenders. Fringe contenders at light heavyweight, not middleweight and below where Trinidad has spent his whole career.

Tito has always been vulnerable to a straight right hand. Roy still has a very fast right hand, and more pop than whom Tito is used to being punched by.

    RJJ TKO 7 Trinidad

Hanshaw has a decent KO percentage (67% of his wins by KO/TKO). The majority of his fights were at super middleweight or just above the super middleweight limit, not at 175.

I wouldn't really call him a KO artist.

    A couple obvious questions;

How is Roy going to look fighting all the way down @170?

How will the weight affect his stamina/legs/chin-- all of these factors seemed to have diminished once he came down from HW (Ruiz fight or even before)?

Is roy going to really fight at a high pace(KO4), or will he lie on the ropes for long periods of each round (giving Tito what many think is his only chance)?

    And for Tito there are even more unknowns (especially @ 170);

    Power
    Chin
    Stamina
    Workrate
    Physical conditioning
    Strength
    Speed

I think Jones is the obvious/easy/safe pick in this one. But I do give Tito more of a chance in this fight than most (even with all the unknowns).

A prime Jones waxes that ass over a prime Tito. But neither fighter is not even close to their prime.

Roy has lost 3 of his last 5 fights (2 via brutal KO's)

Tito has lost 2 of his last 5 (with the Winky fight being 12-0 shutout W/Tito looking like shit/shot)

My prediciton, I am thinking that this version of Roy will come out looking good and fast, winning the fight early, but I think if he doesn't take Tito out before the later rounds that he might find himself in trouble due to his legs not being there because of weight difficulty. I think Tito's problem is that he becomes discouraged when he can't land on a guy-- he'll be able to land on Roy a bit when he's on the ropes.

I am going to go with the colossal upset and pick trinidad by stoppage.

If the fight was at 175, I think Tito would be in for a huge beatdown. I simply believe that Tito(age 35) is going to benefit more from the weight than Jones(age 39).

I don't think Roy will put forth the effort to KO Tito. He knows Trinidad cannot outpoint him unless he gives away more than half the rounds willingly.

My guess is that Roy takes the Tito KO out of play by fighting the way he fought Hanshaw. He'll do just enough to win some rounds, step on the gas a little towards the end, and be satisfied winning a lackluster decision.

I would not be as shocked as most if Roy runs into one and gets KTFO'd because of the weight. In fact, I'd say if anyone is getting knocked out it's Jones.

But in the end, the outcome seems inevitable to me: Jones by lackluster decision.
