I think the conditioning wil be the difference. If this fight was at 154 I would pick Mayorga over the weaker Vargas.

But at 166 I think Vargas will be comfortable while Mayorga will be way out of shape.

Vargas will be more skilled and faster than Mayorga and will stop him late.

We usually see alike but I fear on this one you will be calling me daddy.

Here's the thing Sly: I will grant you this, if after the weigh in Mayorga does not look like a scared bitch.... maybe.... and I say this as somoene who thought Mayorga would be a presence in the division... The guy got spooked and isn't able. Before the De La Hoya fight Mayora looked like he lost. Nando will psych Mayorga out before they ever step to it, guaranteed.

I REALLY don't give a shit about this fight at all.

But I feel that Vargas' chin is beyond the beyond of being shot. I feel he will win most of the fight with his boxing skills, but as soon as Mayorga lands anything that resembles a shot on his chin,it's light's out!!

Mayorga KO after getting easily outboxed for most of the fight!!

I don't give a shit about this fight either and find it almost comical that it's a PPV.

Anyway I say Vargas wins by UD. They're both shot but Mayorga is shot and an overrated bum. I don't know how they can call this a brawl when neither guy can throw impressive enough shots to be entertaining.

Then again what do I know, I thought Mosley would beat Cotto.

Vargas has always boxed and tried to break down opponents before unloading. Even when he has had disdain for the other guy.

As shot as Nando is i don't think Mayorga has the power to take him out with one punch when they'll be fighting at 170+ pounds come fight night.

I will be curious to see what Vargas does when he gets tagged hard the first time though.

My guess is that he will get brave and box less trying to even the score. This opens the door for Mayorga who can better deal with a fire fight if Vargas leaves openings.

I pick Vargass to stop Mayo

Vargass at one point was a pretty talented young fighter..

Mayorga is and always has been a wild swinging crazy man and I pick the talent over the crazyness

True but we can't forget that that same crazyness beat Forrest's talent, TWICE!

Mayorga beats Vargas...Nando is beyond shot!

don't underestimate the role that vargas' weight-drain played in his KO loss to Mosley. also note that in his first fight with Mosley, he went tit for tat and could possible have won had it not been for the swelling on his eye.

Vargas is 100 times more skilled than Mayorga, and he will no doubt understand that backing up Mayorga is the only way to go. and if he does that Mayorga will be virtually neutralized.

has anyone ever seen Mayorga fight effectively going backwards. he loops his shots so much, all you have to do is get close and he'll never hit anything but gloves.

Good points and worthy of consideration.

Still going with Mayorga though, but as with Cotto-Mosley....anything could happen in this one.

This is one of those rare fights where I find myself looking solely at the negatives of both participants and wondering whose are worse than t'other.

Prime Vargas was chinny though talented enough to have a decent enough career but he is far, far removed from his prime and fighting at a weight he hasn't fought at before (166? WTF?), whilst Prime Mayo had decent power against medium level fighters but seemed to freeze against good ones, so you have to wonder what a shot, 170lb+ Mayo is capable of?

    :dunno:

On the basis that I never really rated Mayorga anyway, I'll plump for Vargas to win via late stoppage, but I do so with no confidence and to be honest no real interest, either.

Vargas easily. Mayorga is actually more shot than Vargas is. And he's not half the fighter Vargas is IMO.
