Right After the BHop Fight, Kovalev ADMITTED to Overly Pacing Himself, Having Never Fought Past 8 Rounds Previously...

He'll Be More Aggressive Against Ward, and Earlier...

I seriously question Kovalev's stamina. He seems to slow down dramatically after 5 or 6 rounds. There's a jerky jerkiness to him that makes him hard to read but burns him out.

He needed to drop that last guy he fought when he did because he was gassing and looking more and more clunky as it went on and he seems to get frustrated easily when he's tired. If Ward isn't knocked out or beaten up after 6 he should take over.

Ward's one of those guys you just don't bet against, I'm going with him although I'm not quite sure how exactly he's going to do it.

Kovalev claimed after his last fight against Chilemba that he was trying and studying new things for the Ward fight and first time in his life wasn't going for the KO. Is that true, who knows, he did seem more tentative than usually. However, that bout is the main reason why I pick Ward now, even though Kov did win handily

    I've gone back and forth.

I'm leaning Ward for the victory, but Kovalev is even money with him. He's gonna have to push the pace, though, making his jab a big factor, and he can't let Ward push him around in the clinches. If that right hand is able to find the mark enough times, we will learn a lot about Ward's chin.

Praying I'm wrong. I hope Kovalev wins via stoppage.

This is a great fight on paper. A case can be made for either being p4p #1.

I'll take the relatively safe Ward UD pick, but I do rate Kovalev as the p4p #1 puncher in the sport and I doubt Ward has the #1 chin in the sport.

I think this is my favorite matchup since Calzaghe Kessler (which bombed in ratings), but it's probably the best matchup since Ward Kessler.

Anyway, Kovalev has some flaws so I don't even dismiss a Ward KO, but of the regular predictions, I'd put that outcome last.

This is like the anti-election. Both of these guys are likable and worthy.

If Kov tries to be extra aggressive, I think it will be his downfall.

    I'm on the fence still...

Today I think Ward is going to win an easy decision.

I just can't make up my mind on this one.

It's IMPERATIVE Kovalev Be Extra Aggressive, in REED's Opinion...

The FEWER Risks Kovalev Takes, the BETTER for Ward....

Kov needs to be the Kov that destroyed Cleverly. Not the Kov who fought Chilemba.

Agreed. I hope Kovalev was telling the truth about practicing and testing new stuff against Chilemba instead of going for the KO.

I just think if he's over committed, he'll neglect his defense and will eat jabs and counters, then become frustrated and make more mistakes.

    No Doubt...

Kovalev's NOT Gonna Out Finesse or Out Manuever Ward...He's NOT Going to Beat Him Tacticly or with Patience Either....Aggression, Activity and POWER is the Recipe...

Kovalev CANT Throw Caution to the Wind Altogether, but he DOES Need to Be Willing to Take 2 to Land 1, if Necessary...

Kovalev Can't Win a "Boxing Match" w/Ward, but he's Capable of Defeating ANY Man in a "Fight"....

Jones UD but not nearly as dominant. (obviously)

Roy would have been a lot more careful against Kovalev simply because he'd have to be and he wasn't stupid.

    Roy Wide UD...

Tooooooo FAST of Hand and Foot...He'd NEVER Engage Kovalev on Sergey's Terms AND Roy Had the Power to DETER Kovalev's Rushes, Something REED QUESTIONS in the Case of Ward...

We'd Learn ALL We Need to Know about Kovalev's Chin vs. Roy, Because he'd Get Hit a LOT...If the Chin is STOUT, Roy by Wiiiiiide UD...If the Chin ISN'T, Roy Drops him a Couple Times and Likely Wins by Late TKO...

Jean Pascal had POCKETS of Success in the 1st Kovalev Fight, Based on Superior AFFleticism....That Success Would Be INFINITELY Multiplied in Roy's Case...
