Doub's most likely a WASP; they don't "get" ethnic pride because they were pretty much always in charge

Every large ethnic group in America has its sacred cows... Black, Italian, Irish Catholic, Polish, Japanese, Puerto Rican, Chinese etc

A black guy under 80 outright disliking Ali is really unusual, it's like a Puerto Rican guy that hates Roberto Clemente or an ancient Italian that hates Joe DiMaggio

It's hard for people of my parent's generation of American Irish people to really criticize Jack Kennedy ... why? Because he was the first one of their own kind to ascend to the very top...

Lol well not necessarily! My wife goes all the way back to the Mayflower and she's justifiably proud of that ... when we were first together she was mystified after spending a little time with my family and I ... "what's all this Irish stuff?"... she'd only seen that sort of thing with Italian Americans (she grew up in Waterbury where you can yell "Tony!" and 40 guys will turn around) ... I just explained it's the same kind of thing, only Irish instead of Italian. I remember as a kid there was a singer called Laura Branigan who had a big hit "Gloria" and I heard a lot about her... my parents didn't even like the song much but it was a big deal because she's Laura Branigan and she was from somewhere in New York so it's like she's related to us! Even something that insignificant was noted

There's a huge amount of political reasons both right and wrong, good and bad for that. It's a separate issue that could take up a thousand different threads in the TAA and Political forum.

Irish, English, Danish, German etc. pride aren't the same as black pride, especially in the U.S. They aren't analogous to for example Jamaican or Cameroonian pride.

Fully understandable. I think the disconnect comes when somebody gets revered so much they're elevated to god like status that anybody who speaks about them with anything but gushing approval is treated as a traitor.

If on the other hand somebody decides to completely shit on such revered figures chances are they're trying to be an edgy contrarian. A troll with some talking points.
