A lot of Gomez victims would win titles today.

As for Gomez, I think he'd still be P4P #1 today.

There's no one right now from 118-122 with any prayer in Hell against Gomez.

................ :Jest: I have to stop, No more of this fight.

Ray: "He's very smart!! He kneeled down to take the standing 8 count"

    Pacheco: "He's very waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhhh"

    Ferdie and his fucking miracles.

"It will be a miracle if he doesn't quit on his stool"

"How he got from that right hand it's a miracle........"

    "If he wins this fight it will be one of the greatest miracles" {gets knocked out seconds later}

17:50 mark some pimp stands up to voyz his ping.

Quality upload that, very entertaining. I think Holmes could make some noise today. I'd like to see him trying to light up Barrera with those rights like Jones did.

Yep. Seems to have had great radar, loose, very appreciable hand speed.

I think Bernard Dunne might be the guy who does that "Who makes __________ look his most brilliant" for Gomez.

I think most bantams in history make Gomez look brilliant.

He was just frighteningly good at 122.

Another rewatch, Carlos Ortiz vs Battling Torres.

I swear, this is one of the most underrated masterclasses in history. Ortiz puts on a clinic in every single facet of boxing in this fight: jabbing, footwork, feinting, in-fighting, countering, parrying... he was as complete a fighter as there's ever been, and his ring IQ was just off-the-charts.

Torres fought gallantly, but he was just taken apart by a master. Everyone really needs to watch this performance if they've never seen it. They don't come as skilled as Ortiz anymore.

Watched Hideyuki Ohashi vs Hi Young Choi.

Excellent scrap! Typical war between a Japanese fighter and a South Korean.

Ohashi was completely outgunned by Chang and Lopez, but those are two greats. He was otherwise a quality fighter, as Choi was quite good.

Didn't the guy who played the referee in the Rocky movies fight Carlos Ortiz and get stopped illegally on a late punch? It got called a NC? Pretty sure that happened.

You think Ortiz in his prime stops Buchanan?

Probably doesn't stop him. Ken was a tough sonuvabitch, and Ortiz didn't have the firepower of Duran.

But I think prime Ortiz beats Buchanan by clear decision. Even old, shot Ortiz gave him a tough fight.

Torres was a huge puncher. Another guy who would win a title today. He hit Ortiz with a huge right hand at one point that momentarily buzzed him, but Ortiz recovered quickly and went back to taking him apart.

Rewatched Rodolfo Gonzales vs Chango Carmona.

Can never go wrong with this performance. Gonzales was Napoles-lite in this fight:

It is spectacular to watch. His chin is one of the shakiest at the top level. He never learnt to just take a knee first and try to steady himself. It was like the Zab Judah chicken dance, but every time.

    I rewatched Quartey-DLH.

Oscar did not win that fight.

Poor Ike Quartey. The guy should have wins over DLH and Forrest.

I rewatched Sheika vs Calzaghe just now.

Sheika was brought over to England to engage Joe so Joe could blow away the smell of recent disappointments vs Starie etc.

It didnt really work out that way, Calzaghe picked him apart and only when Sheika was wobbly did Sheika really open up with some vigour.

He got cut to pieces in short order.

Yeah, Joe beat the Hell outta Sheika. I haven't watched that fight in many, many years, but I used to have it on VHS.

Horrible fight- Sheika never got motoring until his battery had run down, and that's when Joe cut him up. Sheika was also complaing about Calzaghes head, which Joe was never prone to use in a dirty way. Sheika just looked amateurish and clueless really, way out of his depth.

I also watched Galento vs Louis.

I don't know what to say, that fight is basically a blend of world class stuff and utter rubbish, simultaneously.

Rewatching Ezzard Charles vs Joe Louis.

I much prefer the side stance that old timers like Charles, Robinson, Gavilan, Ortiz, Harold Johnson, ect, implemented compared to the more squared up stance that became popularized.

    I rewatched Canelo vs Hatton.

Hatton, the scrubalicious bum, did 12 rounds HARD with Canelo, taking and landing shots.

It's funny- he did a better job than any other British fighter that fought Canelo and would have LOST to all of them.

Tatsuyoshi was a fucking icon. Easy to see why, he was in war after war. Inoue turned full fanboy mode in a doc on him.

I was never that impressed by this performance from Ezz, (and neither were anyone at that time, TBF), but he did show some brilliant tactics that are completely absent from today's game. His handwork, and hand fighting, for instance. It's in MMA a lot, but that's more for wrestling. He used a high mummy guard and just completely took away Louis' cross with it. And he used it pretty well vs jab, but since he was focused on the cross he didn't do it quite so well. Plus, it's Joe fucking Louis. No one's supposed to be able to take away his tools, even by that point. Actually, Ennis is the only guy I can think of who's done something similar. Canelo did it well vs Kovalev, but that was more offensive positioning to set stuff up rather shutting down offense by smothering it. Charles' work putting 2s and 3s together was really good here. Can't do it like he did without that stance.

I prefer other Charles performances to this one, but seeing a full fifteen rounder from him is obviously incredibly valuable.

Just watching Fletcher vs Singletary. Mindless action from the Animal, as you'd expect. It's a great little slugfest, if you haven't seen it. Think a southpaw, 160 Aaron Pryor in style but without the substance that made Aaron great and you have Frank Fletcher.

Sarcasm on my behalf. I felt that he was very much an overlooked entity who with retrospect turned in one of the finest losing performances on the road of any British fighter, ever.

It's not quite Farr vs Louis, but it's close.

Really good performance by McAuley. Dominated McKenzie to take the title.

Makes me laugh when people say Frampton was one of the best boxers to come out of Ireland.

He wasn't even top 10 in Northern Ireland.

McAuley was another great boxer from Ireland who, like Carruth, was just not properly managed.

Carruth went to the Olympics, beat a Cuban, and got, largely, fuck all out of it.
