I believe what you say, but IMO, Calzaghe's win over Lacey and Kessler is equivalent to that of say, Hamed over Robinson or Kelley.

The UK media jumped right on Calzaghe's scrotum as soon after the Lacey fight- before then, he was a bum.

If Calzaghe is that good, then he should make short work of a guy 5 years older than him and stop him midway.
    But he won't.
Calzaghe doesn't hit nearly as hard as folks like to think and will fight a safety-first fight cos he's a slappy-Taffy.

Plus he's got a cunt for a Dad in his corner.

    And his girlfriend's a slag 'n all.

I can see the comparison with Robinson and Lacy, but Kessler is much better than Kelly was. Plus, Kelly was completely finished when Prince Bullshitter beat him (after being rattled a couple of times himself)- Kessler was an unbeaten, two belt WC at his peak at age 28.

Calzaghe would make mincemeat out of most 43 year olds, but you and I know that's disengeuous- Hopkins is no ordinary 43 year old. The dirty ol' bastard just seems to defy Father Time.

Agreed with Enzo though, as my sig might suggest

all you have to do is look at calzaghes record to see why he was seen as a joke before the lacy and kessler fights. unforgivable behaviour when he was sitting at home in his coccoon fighting bums of the highest order.

now that hopkins is 43 he wants to finally come to america to fight him

    you couldn't make this up.

i just hope he gets what he deserves and gets a hiding from B-Hop

You are aware that Calzaghe agreed to fight Hopkins 6 years ago only for Hopkins to pull out at the death because he wanted to double his money?

A little fact that the haters like to forget, Calzaghe will never get recognition from certain people.

Another thing that winds me up about Calzaghe - he was always calling out guys in a lower division than him.
    Always.

And if he ever called out a guy in a higher division, they always had to come down to fight him.

And the fights has to be in either Wales or England.

This is why Calzaghe won so many fights: 'The Comfort Zone'.

Seriously Mustard, who would you have liked to see Joe call out? I mean, SMW was an absolute dead mans division for about 8 years or so.

He did actually call out Roy when roy was in his prime but of course there was no way he was going to move up. he also has been calling out smaller fighters for years yet criticises B-hop for actually fighting them and not just sitting at home in his cocoon and calling them out??

Yep, and Americans fought hard in Hopkins defence  , now a few years have passed and "Calzaghe ducked him"... pathetic stuff, I dont get the love for Hopkins, it's irrational, he fucking stinks to watch, he's dirty, he's filthy, he's ugly, he's a genuine, greedy racist arsehole who participates in fixed fights to rort the fans,...............whats to like about this grotesque piece of shit?.. :dunno: why do people want him to suceed in life?.. He's worse than Fraud Mayweather on a character level, and definitely inferior as a fighter. I hope Calzaghe kills him, it would be like thrusting a sword into everything that's hideous and wrong in this sport, encapsulated:shit: .

I also dont know why you hate Margarito so much, that's a ponderous mystery too, normally Im aware of the root hatred of a poster towards Margarito, with bitter heartbroken Fraud groupies or threatenned anti-Mexican Puerto Rican Cotto groupies making up the main percentage, I know your a fan of aggressive action fighters and rather despise back peddling bitch fighters, you dont seem to fit into the regular categories or even the few sub-categories I have in mind, your anti-Margarito stance is a true anomaly aswell. :dunno:

    Shall we say, 2000-2001?
Roy Jones Jr, Antonio Tarver, Julio Cesar Gonzalez, Dariusz Michalczewski - if he'd fought at least ONE of those pricks in their primes at 175lb I'd have been more than impressed.

But no. He has to do a Eubank and pad out his pathetic record by fighting utter shite at 168.

Yes, you have a point. It's just one of those things, I guess one can never generalise too much. And often it comes down to intangibles.

Even if you have a prerequisite favourability towards a certain style or type of fighter, ultimately it comes down to you warming to or being excited by the individual fighter himself.

I love attacking fighters, but I also appreciate speed and skill.

Tszyu was a somewhat skillful attacking fighter, but I can't stand him, I always hated him.

And somehow I found him boring to watch :dunno:

Margarito, I don't hate, but I don't like him either. He is a proper attacking fighter, yet somehow I've never been electrofied by him, none of his performances have made me stand up. Compared the Pacmans and the Moraleses of the world, I find him dull.

Not only does Marge not have the speed and skill that I like, but he is so monotonous. No surprises, just the same thing round after round. I find him distinctly average to watch, with only his chin and workrate keeping him in the vicinities of the world class boxing stage.

You know the closer this fight gets the more I'm wondering if Hopkins is getting under Calzaghe's skin.

Yesterday at the press conference Calzaghe said this:

All this s*** about being the Executioner and

wearing that stupid that and telling everyone he’s a legend, what the f*** is that?â€￾

Calzaghe blasted Hopkins further, adding: “You are a f****** phoney mate, a phoney, a f****** phoney, let’s have it right. This will be his last fight.â€￾

    http://www.doghouseboxing.com/Benz/BenzMM041608.htm

He also called Hopkins a B level fighter.and had even more stuff to say.

Hopkins has been talking a lot of trash to Calzaghe and I think it is actually starting to gake effect. Joe's tone has gotten even more and more angry since the fight was originally announced.

They only do this shit to sell the fight

Joe is probably having a blast because he gets to talk shit to sell the fight. Ticket sales are low, so the more trash talk the better.

Every fighter ducks and dives for all we know Joe is probably trying to fight Hopkins the last 10 years then again he could be running 10 years.

But make no mistakes every fighter has there own way of getting out of a fight. :nono:

I picture Calzaghe doing A LOT of complaining in there. If Hopkins can get him out of his comfort zone, who knows?

I'll go with the safe bet this time, however... Calzaghe UD.

    Hopkins wins a close decison.

    There will be no knockdowns.

There will be no hard punches landed.

There will be no exciting exchanges.

There will be lots of booing.
