If you think that the notion of Taylor being a good body puncher isn't close to being true, then you are not as observant as I previously thought. I clearly saw (althought it's subtle) Taylor discourage Hopkins' attack with combinations to the body in both their fights. Plus I've seen taylor drop guys with body shots before...

Talk is cheap. Let's see what happens tonight. If I happen to be wrong...I'll gladly eat crow. Let's see whether you're humble enough to do the same.

I don't know Sly I don't know. I can't see where you are getting the body shot idea from.

Frankly it is hard to even make a case that Taylor is a devistating puncher because he has not Ko'ed anyone in quite some time.

Seems to me that what one can say is that Talor is very strong. He is big for the weight and hits hard. But his punches are straight and I can't see anyone at that weight bullying him around.

The body shot thing is very subtle, but I've noticed it. Don't be surprised to see it in effect tonight. Also, don't be surprised to see Taylor badly hurt Pavlik with the left hook. The difference in speed tonight will be significant. But it will be very competitive...taylor will have alot of difficulty with this big strong determined guy...but in the end true class, shines.

    You keep forgetting...

    Taylor's supreme bodypunching is "subtle."

So subtle that only Sly has managed to pick up on it.

I think Pavlik wins this by late TKO.

Ultimately, the Wright and Ouma fights tell us alot....but especially Wright. When you come forward on Taylor with alot of pressure and a high guard and have a good workrate - he is quite ineffective and fails to use his jab and angles to control the attack. The Wright fight wasn't the first time we've seen that happen.

And Pavlik is bigger, stronger, busier and punches harder than any of those guys - and than anyone Taylor has fought before.

I also think Taylor is going to underestimate Pavlik's reach all night and is going to be too confident about his speed advantage (and Kelly's perceived lack of it)....and that will cost him as he backs away in a straight line given Kelly's extension and straight punching.

I do think that if Taylor committed to his jab and to fighting tall, he'd have a a great chance to win it...but he won't. Think DLH-Vargas...Vargas' heavier, thudding jab was disrupting DLH's quite a bit. I think that will happen tonight.

I do think (like Sly and others) that Taylor DOES have fire and that he WILL fire back and engage Pavlik when he gets hit and pressured.

Problem is, I think that's going to play right into Pavlik's hands, allowing Kelly to hit Taylor with his best and biggest shots.

And when pressured effectively and hit hard, Taylor discards his jab in order to fire his combinations.

He may rock Pavlik or even down him - especially with the uppercut if he elects to COMMIT to it on a leaning-in Pavlik - but ultimately Pavlik's pressure, strength, power and WORKRATE (WITH power) will be too much and will fluster and overwhelm Taylor.

    Pavlik by late TKO.

    Peace.

    For the record Sly...

I was the one talking about the lefthook, it's simply something you picked up from me. Typically, Taylor's lefthook hasn't beenthat effective because he's usually out of position to throw it correctly because of his terrible footwork.

The REASON Stewart believes Pavlik's perfect for Taylor is due to his thinking that Pavlik is a straight up target for taylor which is true to an extent...

    'However"

Seeing that Taylor has abolsutely NO ability to fight on the inside or throw meaningful uppercuts (outside of the lead left uppercut) once the fight goes inside, it's all Pavlik because Kelly throws better underneath shots than Jermain.

This is part of the reason Jermain was constantly backed up by Winky. He didn't have any answer once Wink stepped to him. Hell, in the rematch with Hopkins his ONLY defense was to grab Hopkins and wait for the ref to break them. That was it. My question to you is, where was all that "subtle" bodypunching when Hopkins and Taylor spent the vast majority of the first fight at a distance looking at each other? :dunno:

The REASON I said Taylor's best bet is to catch Pavlik withthe left hook is due to how both throw it. Taylor gets his elbow up which enables him to throw it in toward the chin (think Trinidad) where Pavlik's is a bit wider, elbow down (think Calzaghe's right hook). Taylor's should be able to get there first.

Plus, Pavlik's right hand is straighter, but it's also longer than Taylor's. Therefore, when Pavlik misses, if Jermain has the balls and the timing, if he's not giving up his height, he can slip and counter Pavlik's missed right hand with an lefthook (or left uppercut) Pavlik never sees.

Mind you, I've been absent for the past two weeks pretty much, but previously i have NO recollection of you stating anything like this...it's simply been the cliched...

    "styles makes fights"

    "speed kills"

    Who you calling Englishman, Englishman?

You're as English as I, the crucial difference compadre, is that you want to be canadian, and I don't.

Even if you're right about Taylor winning, which is unlikely, the shit part is simply Taylor's "subtle" bodypunching.

Yup...that, and when Pavlik leans in he's a bit blind to a left hook because of where his head and glove are positioned.

Problem is, Taylor sucks at shortening his shots -- Pavlik does not.

    Inside, it's all Kelly.

    Peace.

I'm going to go with JT by UD.

This one's a tough one to call because although I think Pavlik's power may be a bit overrated due to his comp level (not counting Miranda) I also think JT coming up in weight offsets the ineffectiveness of that (possible) overrated power. Still, I'm going to go with superior experience and skills over just power. If Pavlik were a more complete fighter I'd expect him to win off of using his height and reach + his power, but since he's sloppy enough to remind me of Maussa, I'm going with JT.

I thought of Maussa too. Just because his no name trainer was able to get the better of the great Manny Steward when Maussa KTFO Harris.

The parallel of an unknown trainer upsetting a great one I can understand...

But saying Pavlik is as sloppy as Maussa? I can't see it.

Yeah. I am not comparing a fighter of Pavliks calibre to Maussa. Im comparing Loew to whoever trained Maussa.

I thought JT was supposed to be moving up. Didn't know if it was this fight or later but I know they had said at one time his next fight he would be moving up.

I've seen 2 of Kelly's fights but it was so long ago I barely remember. It was during some highlights of the "countdown" that he reminded me of Maussa.
