Final Prediction: Joel Casamayor vs. Juan Manuel Marquez

Yeah you'd think Marquez would be a judges's favourite for fuck's sake, he is textbook, a technically brilliant fighter. He has everything a judge should be looking for. I guess a lot of judges are just retards.

Ugo - so basically you're just saying average shots, shots that aren't hard enough to snap a head back, or stun a fighter? Perhaps, but then again if they are not obvious from the TV, then surely they can't be hard enough to make a difference to the scoring?

By the way, Marquez has grown on me. Not just because he just KO'd Hole, but because I respect his ability, and he has undoubtedly become more watchable late in his career.

As a world class fighter I'd say he is average athletically (of course within the realm of being world class). Speed, power, footwork, movement, stamina etc all decent, but nothing extraordinary at the highest level. Yet he is still an elite fighter, purely down to incredible skill, technical ability, and ring intelligence/adaptability. You have to respect that. He is sort of the opposite of someone like Judah.

 

I think it is that these shots can define which fighter appears to be in control when neither fighter really is dominating. Thus in close rounds the scale might dip in different direction. In this bout relatively close rounds were 1-4, 8 and 9 if I remember correctly. I think scoring of those rounds might have looked different from ringside
