We could all be wrong - but my guess is Cotto can't win rounds by running the way he could against fellow 5 niners. Against a full fledged and lanky welter-weight? I don't think running is gonna work. He'll be forced to duke it out. And we know how that turns out.

Review the fight with Margarito/Clottey. Clottey was countering the hell out of Margarito and winning the fight easily until he hurt his hand. Cotto is going to beat the shit out of Margarito.

:nono:Has that happened @147? It was obvious Cotto was killing himself to make weight. He fought Judah and Mosley who has power with speed and he took them power shots pretty damn good if you ask me.

I think for the first 7 rounds he'll back up and throw nuggety little hooks behind his peekaboo defence,... for the last 5, he will as Illuminati calls it, "cruise with smart skills".. which is ofcourse, essentially running. Remember, Cotto only needs to win 4 rounds to get top ranks nod,.. boxing isn't fare - it's a business, and Cotto makes the most money.

 BIG Margarito cannot KO a little guy like MIGUEL COTTO? Margarito has a 5-6" height advantage.....67" to 73" reach advantage....has been in there with bigger welters than cotto..Cintron/Clottey/Williams..and has fought even at a higher weight vs. Santos......but MARGARITO still will be depending on a decision....>???

    Cotto boxing Margarito....moral victory....
Margarito making it to the final bell..even when has lose 9-10 rounds...moral victory....:bears:

Clottey is bigger than Cotto and in my estimation more durable too even if his stamina is shit.

And I don't think he hurt his hand. I think he was tuckered out and afraid of getting knocked out so he basically disengaged, which is the typical manner in which Margarito fights proceed - he take his lumps but in the end it's he and not his opponent putting on the hurt.

Cotto isnt small, he's a thick, thick, somewhat musclebound lump, with monsterous shoulder cogs,..and it's 'likely' to go to a decision because ah Cotto is simply a good fighter, with ah? good boxing skills, and he'll block alot of Antonio's shots on the run :dunno: ?.. Although Margarito's shots hurt, he's not a 1 punch knock-out artist, he's an accumulative sort of feind, so anyone with a decent defence and an inclination to run stands a good bet to go the distance with him, though, Cotto will be quite a demoralised soul at the end ofcourse. Here's top ranks judging syllabus for this particular fight,..

Cotto wins 4 rounds = UD
Cotto wins 3 rounds = MD
Cotto wins 2 rounds = SD
    Cotto wins 1 rounds = D
Cotto wins 0 rounds = Margarito SD (initiate immediate rematch clause).

And the world will be shocked!!! I can't wait. This is going to be a great fight. If it's boring, it means Cotto whimped out. If it's exciting, it means Cotto gets his clocked cleaned. Either way, Margarito will finally get the credit he is due.

No. But that's a good example of how the fight "could" turn out if Cotto decides not to go out on his shield.

BTW: lol at the notion that Cotto can box and move the way ODH did against Trinidad.

Double I can already see your excuse. If Cotto wins, but doesnt go toe-to-toe with Tony every round, you'll say he used "stink" to win.

Believe me. If Cotto is reduced to using "stink" he's not winning the fight. Not legitimately anyways (maybe according to Top Rank he will have won).

Cotto was out on his feet against Torres and he didn't even hold. And when N'dou was chasing him out of the ring he didn't use any stink. So I don't think he has it in him to "stink."

He might try to use a lot of movement but that won't work against Margarito and that'll be clear to everyone if and when it occurs.

Cotto's best bet will be to get inside on Margarito and punish him with short body shots and left hooks to the chin. But I don't think Margarito will be stupid enough to allow that to happen.

Isn't it FUNNY Watching All these Margarita Supporters Providing THEMSELVES w/OUT clauses???:atu:...

On the Flipside, Guys R CONFIDENTLY Picking Cotto...

Bottom Line, if Margarita is REALLY an "Elite Fighter", WHY should Cotto have to Fight DOWN to his Level???...If Margarita's REALLY as Good as DOUB & Others Suggest, he'll RAISE his Game to WHATEVER Level or Tactics Cotto Employs...

    OUT Clauses R for WUSSES....

Cotto has BETTER, QUICKER Footwork than Margarita...If Cotto WANTS to Saty AWAY from Margarita, he'll B Able to...

Also, Margarita ISN'T the Smartest Fighter Out There...He's More BALLSY than BRAINY in the Ring...Margarita will Take 2 or 3 just to Land 1...

For as Looooooong as the Fight Lasts, Cotto will SEVERELY Outland Margarita...His Defense SUCKS, Dude...

I'm still not making a pick, and I wasn't rooting for either guy but REED has forced me to root for Margarito with the malarkey he's been posting.

Yeah. Because he beat the shyte out of Alfonso Gomez and Zab Judah, right?

And besides Mosley, who he barely beat, he hasn't fought anyone of substance at 147. Judah's a 140 pounder at best, and never did shit at 147 except fall apart.

And Margarito may not fit the mold of what you consider a "skilled" fighter, with blazing combinations and foot-work worthy of dancing with the stars, but the man knows a thing or two about fighting - I can promise you that. You talk about him like he belongs in a tough-man contest or something and that's a ridiculous and very narrow-minded view of what constitutes a skilled fighter.

REED Certainly DOESN'T have a Narrow Minded View of a "Skilled" Fighter...

Take your Boy J.L. Castillo for Instance...On the SURFACE, his Skills DON'T just Jump Out @ U (Not the 1st Couple times U Watch him), but N Actuality he's a VERY SKILLED "Pressure Fighter"...@ his Best he RARELY Moved Backwards, had a Good Workrate, Good JAB, Good 1 Shot Power & UNDERRATED Defense & Handspeed...

Castillo BLOCKED, ROLLED w/or just Flat-Out EVADED More Shots than Most "Pressure Fighters" Do...

Like Castillo, Margarita's Primarily a "Pressure Fighter", Unfortunately, Margarita LACKS Most of what Made Castillo an ELITE Fighter N his Prime...

Margarita's SLOWER of Hand AND Foot, Doesn't Quite Punch as Hard & is Much, MUCH Easier to Hit FLUSH than Castillo EVER was...They BOTH have Good Chins, Uppercuts & Bodypunches...

Sorry, REED has a VERY BROAD View of a "Skilled" Fighter...Antonio Margarita just ISN'T 1 of them...

    Exactly.

Margarito has physical limitations...so if he tried to fight another way he probably wouldn't have been nearly as successful as he's become. He knows that, which is in part why his style is as straightforward and simplistic as it is.

He's not going to win with footwork and flashy combinations - which I guess is a pre-requisite in the minds of some people - so he relies on other attributes.

That doesn't mean he's just an unskilled, unintelligent bum, which is the way he's characterized.

I think at times he shows he can do more than just his normal approach, but it's not going to be successful if he tries to go into the ring and focus on defense and not get hit...because he doesn't have a fast enough trigger to do it.

    He can't be a counter-puncher.

I'd also argue that it's a skill of sorts when a fighter can shower his opponent with as much offense as Margarito does.

If a fighter without this skill just went out there and with the advent of good stamina simply threw one punch after another, any opponent worth a damn would easily block his punches and counter the shit out of him.

Margarito gets hit. But it's not like he's picked apart. There is a method to his madness. He's very unpredictable making it difficult to counter punch him. That isn't incidental. It's called skill. One that he's honed and used to great affect.

It's why Cintron was so befuddled, for example, by Margarito. If Margarito had simply gone out there and swung away like an idiot bull-dog, a guy like Cintron would've had the defense to deal with it. But that's not what Tony does. He tricks you. He makes you think one things coming and instead brings something else.

And for as tall as he is, he can fight inside very well too.

The other thing that gets overlooked is that Margarito need not be set to throw punches. That is a very overlooked advantage he has over Cotto, who for the most part, likes to set his feet before ripping off punches.
