I don't hate Dunne. Ten years ago, I would have been all over this kids nutsack. But, knowing what I know now, I'm forced to raise my brows. Anyways....enjoy the evening.:bears:

Yes. What do you know? If you don't speak what you know, you know nothing.

    Well

    1. Dunne is fighting a nobody.

    2. RTE {Nat Broadcaster} will hype it up to all get-out....despite the fact that Bernards "World Champion" claims are SUSPECT at best.

    3. The undercard is pure shite.

4.The event is solely a moneyspinner, with NO significance whatsoever in the boxing world. Ironically, it will matter more to boxing if Dunne LOSES. And come on, Dunne had his apprenticeship already in America.

    1. He is fighting the No. 3 guy is his second defense. There was talk of Kiko who is the NO.1 contender, that could be his next outing.

    2. All broadcaster are going to hype up a show, that’s there job, get the publicity going.

    3. The original under card was wayne and Fagan, there was nothing wrong with that IMO. Look at the undercards for Oscar V Floyd, most under cards are shit these days so I don’t buy that either.

    4. Of course it’s a money and dunne needs to step up his level of opponent fast, as much as I hate it that’s boxing politics the world over NOT ONLY IRELAND.

    5. I’m a boxing fan so ill be there.

    1. No 3 guy of who? THE IBO or the EBU?Eitherways, they are pretty shallow talent pools.

    2. It is NOT RTE's job to hype shit. They have taken money to do so, but it ain't their job bro.

    3. I don't care what the original undercard was. Its what it has become since Wayne dropped out. And TKO, educated word {Katie Taylors father no less} has it that Wayne was being offered TBA as late as last week.

4.The time for Bernard and his shenanigans was back in LA. And, by all accounts he already lost over there, and I know that Voronin had him OUT in their fight, if that fight was based in America it might well have been stopped.

    5. I'm a fight fan too, I'll watch it, for sure, no doubts. But I won't pay.

Has this forum ever been wrong about a major pick???? It was 50-50 for DLH-Floyd and that fight ended on a split-dec. Cotto also got the nod in the Judah fight.

So RTE should not advertise the show…you cant be serious.

Don’t get me wrong the treatment of Wayne was disgraceful but your just attacking from all angle’s.
Its so unlike the Irish public to begrudge their own!

Lost to whom over in the stares? And Ben schooled Voronin that night he got caught with one punch and did very well to stay up. That fight was never going to be stopped, where you there? Or are you going on someone else opinion?

Who would you have Ben fight at this stage, Calzaghe made a career fighting the so called average fighters.

Maybe you too mean to pay...:tease:

Funny you mention Calzone, a few of his fights were stopped for a lot less than the Dunne-Voronin fight. Anyhow, I don't think there's any problem with him making 3-4 defences of the euro title...the trouble is if he sits on it waiting for the world title shot, because there's no one in the EBU ranking who will give him the necessary experience to win a world title...

I'm afraid we'll end up with a Kelly-Pacheco situation, where Damean was a nice boxer with good euro but limited international experience, went over to columbia for his title fight to take on a guy naturally bigger (and Dunne is not particularly big for his weight class, half his weight is accounted for by the size of his head), and got creamed....

sure it musta fucked up on tito-hopkins and rjj-trarver 1

but yeah, you're right, a boxing forum seems a good place to base your bet on

It would have been ludicrous to stop that fight. I thought that was a good performance from Ben. He totally out classed the guy, granted he was caught late on but he did well. And that was a featherweight as far as i can remember.

I totally agree with you about defending the euro title, another 2-3 defenses and he should make the jump. He’s got to fight Kiko next anyway. He’s the undefeated no. 1 contender for Ben’s title.

IMO Dunne’s not ready of the top guys in the division yet.

RTE are the national broadcaster, we pay a licence fee to them on the understanding that they will provide entertainment and keep us informed, supposedly. They are right to TELEVISE the fight, they are NOT RIGHT to promote the fight. Thats the promoters job. But, RTE, just as they do with the GAA, have their paddle in at both ends. THey lose objectivity but they make money. Celtic Tiger all the way.

At this stage I would have Ben fight Michael HUnter and then I'd throw him in against some British level 126lbrs who could extend him over the 12 rounds.

Ben never lost in the States, but he did get a very disputed decision against a mexican southpaw that nailed Bernard all night long. Boxing Monthly had a little write up on it.

Ben didn't stay up vs Voronin. His ass sank onto the bottom rope. He was down. It was live on TV. Bernard was bending over at the waist, doing the drunken sailor routine. He should have gotten a count at least. And Voronin was blown away by Nicky Cook.

I'm not begrudging anyone, I'm just saying that Bernard will end up like Barry Mac if he isn't careful.

Hunter is damaged goods but Ben could fight him after the Kiko fight.
Cook got the decision against Voronin it was hardly a hammering.

And I disagree about Ben fighting at 126 I don’t think he is big enough

I'm also going with Hatton by decision. It won't be a FOTY candidate, but it won't be a stinker either.

Totally agree. Thats what I am worried about, And When/IF it happens, RTE will suddenly find live hockey from Lansdowne to show us, as well as saying they will never venture into live boxing again.

Against Brit level 126rs, of whom Hunter is now one, Ben could use his skills to offset the weight. Fighting bigger men could help prevent the scenario which Der Tiger has outlined in another post, namely, Ben getting creamed by bigger talented guys.

That is a good point, but if Dunne did take on your average 126rs he would still get flak for fighthing average fighters. Im not saying hes being handled perfectly but hes on the right road.

The trouble is the hype machine will compel him to get a world title fight sooner rather than later, with RTE pundits and ignorant sports journalists telling us he's only a few fights away, there will be unhealthy pressure on him to take a title shot beofr he's ready...in many ways, I would prefer him to go the hatton route, get a crappy wbu title and defend it against some old shot names (wayne?) just in order to get some seasoning and still satisfy the tv paymasters...warren may be cynical but he knows what he's doing..

hope hatton gets his heart snatched from him, hope castillo gives him a thorough beating, like hopkins did tito, barrera did naz. that kind of career-ending humiliation.

then, after he blubbers about being unprepared or ill or shellfish-poisoned, maybe mentions retirement in the post-fight interview, he goes back to the hotel room with his wife and she tells him: "it's ok, love, i'll always love you, you're always a winner to me", but, really, he's shrunk in her eyes, he's less of a man, and she wonders what it would be like to make love to a wild animalistic mexican like JLC.

then they get back on the plane to britain, and, coming off the runway, there's nobody to meet him there. just the cold manchester air, raining in june.
