....shame that Martinez is only just getting the exposure he deserves.......he fought over here, beat the capable Richard Williams twice....looked set for big things......that must have been about 5 years ago

i hadn't seem martinez fight since margarito beat him. he was certainly impressive. it seems he showed hbo enough for them to push him as an opponent for a name guy in the near future.

Hopefully thats the plan. You gotta wonder who actually wants to fight Martinez though. He's massive risk for seemingly little return.

Well Vernon has to fight him next. Should be interesting, Vernon can still time somebody down the middle with the right.

Angulo, of the 3 featured fighters on the card tonight, has the best chance of being successful for a long time at an elite level.

I felt that Angulo had by far the fewest "holes" of the 3, in that he has very few (if any) fundamental flaws. His defense is tight, his offense is fanatastic, his stamina is great as well. He can take a good punch. He has a myriad of punches he throws well, including going to the body, uppercuts, hooks, straight punches. He has excellent punching power, he does not make stupid mistakes and has very few bad habits. For how young he is and new to the pros, he is really impressive. He could be a champion right now, although there is no need to rush.

Martinez looked good, but I have not seen him enough to make a firm judgment on him yet. Keeps his hands down too much for my liking and is not a devastating puncher. We'll see with him, though. He certainly is one to watch.

Gamboa is in for trouble. Despite his truly elite athletic ability, he has some bad habits which will bring about his demise. Over the past 6 months or so, I had bought into the whole "he needs a new trainer to help him fix his flaws" spiel, but now that he has a new trainer he has not changed a thing. This smacks of HABIT, things he has done for some time and will likely continue to do (especially when in the heat of battle) no matter who trains him.

When Gamboa throws combinations, he keeps his head STRAIGHT up in the air, his body is square and is standing STRAIGHT up, and his damn hands are DOWN at his sides. When he throws a left hook his damn right hand is not up at his cheek protecting from an opponents left hook, it's down at his side.

I don't know how many here noticed it since HBO's commentators said nothing about it, but in the last exchange before Gamboa won the fight he was POPPED hard with a counter left hook from Ramirez which damn near dropped him. He got caught right on the jaw and his knees buckled. He recovered well, though.

Gamboa's speed and athletic ability will keep him in the game for a while, but he has a fatal flaw in the way he stands up & exposes his chin, and he will be brutally KO's when he steps it up. It pains me to say this since I like watching the kid, but it's a fact. Part of the way he throws punches so quickly and keeps his balance is because of how he keeps his head straight up, unmoving, and his hands down at his sides. It is basically part of his offensive style and will be very hard to change. Watching some of the exchanges with Ramirez in slow-motion had me thinking Gamboa was frankly a bit lucky he did not get KO'd tonight.

agree completely with outlander, although I think Angulo doesn't have the talent Gamboa has.

Gamboa is a special offensive fighter with some very bad habits. I hope the hype doesn't go too wild, cause he's gonna get brutaly stopped when he steps up to the top level.

angulo is a tough fellow who knows his way around a boxing ring, but he's getting over rated. he is limited and it clearly showed against a guy who was getting his ass whupped by a bloated camacho jr. I'd take martinez ALL DAY over angulo

As would I. Slick boxers are gonna be hell for Angulo. But anybody who stands in front of him is gonna be asking for trouble. His power isnt quite devestating, but he's very heavy handed, and in the long run his punches take effect. If matched properly he can definitely win a belt. He'd destroy Verno Philips right now. He'd also slaughter guys like Chavez Jr, Duddy, and Wolak.

I'd keep him away from Martinez, and Santos. I'd even keep him away from old man Forrest right now.

I don't get the hype forAngulo. I disagree totally. He is not an elite fighter and never will be.

I finally watched some of the Martinez-Bunema replay this morning...first time seeing Martinez.

He looks to me like he throws his left like a converted fighter. Nice jab, and right hook, though I don't like how he carries his arms low and punches up from his waist.

If the reason he holds his hands low is because of his bulk, which is considerable for a fighter of his style, perhaps he should cut some muscle.

...yeah, and i don't rate Angulo too much either....it is not that Mora is better, although he might be....but it in a match against Angluo, his style would give Angulo fits......Angulo's pressure and strength could overcome that, but i'd pick Mora

nice. Spoiling a same-night fight in a thread for a different card.

Oh, don't worry, though. Spoiling results won't get you in any trouble, but name-calling will. So, if by some chance, someone calls you a f*#*(# do*#@(*b*(g, well, that's just not tolerated around here.

You should thank him;I'd have banned you for that shit. Also, how can a person come to a boxing board and cry about a spoiler and then complain about it. Are you serious?

Agreed. Mora blows. He has nothing to keep Angulo off of him with. El Perro would give that cunt a hellacious beating.

In cities, people still flip off inconsiderate dickwads who drive like retards despite knowing the city has more than its share of them.
