gatti's right, Floyd is an ego-maniac. He won't be able to handle the spotlight not on him. As soon as he isn't getting any attention, he'll come back

I dont believe anything Fraud says because he's a piece of shit without much of a conscience, but if there's anything worth mentioning about his legacy, I would say that this particular fighter had the most ILLEGAL defensive system in the history of the sport, he is a foul ridden felon who is horrified of pressure, he was allowed to impliment his 'thorn' in America with complete impunity, while those same people complained about Holyfields head, and Ruiz's clinching or recently, Wlad's parrying,.. Fraud's defensive system, although clearly and irrefuteably illegal, and operative at ALL TIMES, was in turn labelled as "genius"..:shit::shit::shit:

....pathetic, pathetic stuff by the biased American fans and media who will bend the rules of boxing just for some various high profile symbolism and it's welcome connotations.

Of course the possibility is high this is more bullshit.

If it is though, how many times can he milk a fucking pseudo retirement? Hasn't he already done this 2 or 3 times?

    It's becoming pretty pathetic actually.

Is Floyd the most annoying boxer ever?

Either way, Floyd - Cotto won't happen.

i see him coming back, but i don't think it will be for a while....maybe 18 months time. He'll have a break from it, but he'll eventually rediscover his love for the sport, and the money.....

Rumors are running rampant that Mayweather will announce he's signed with the UFC. Dana White claims he has a 'HUGE' announcement scheduled for Thursday.

It's just a rumor, so take it with a grain of salt, but it is out there.

Agreed. Like Dana would pay Floyd even a 10th of what he'd make fighting Oscar

    Great observation!

DLH is an exception when it comes to his finances (so far...life is a marathon after all...take a look at Holyfield).

But I think it's meaningless; a professional fighter can retire after every fight if they desire, and still end up with the exact same rate of fights per year once they are on the championship level. Even in the heyday of decades past, the highest grossing fighters could take large layoffs and not be affected.

REED is UNsure of Floyd's MOTIVES, but Nonetheless, this is CLEARLY a BULLSHIT "Retirement"....& REED Expects ANOTHER 2-3 Retirements B 4 Floyd REALLY Means it...

    1. If Floyd was SERIOUS, he WOULDN'T have Done this via Press Release...He'd have had a Press CONFERENCE & Invited Various Television Sources...Riding Off N 2 the Sunset via Press Release just ISN'T Like Floyd...When he DOES Go Out 4 Good, he's Gonna Go Out w/a SPLASH...A Press Release is BARELY a Ripple...

    2. Floyd ISN'T Good @ Anything Else...& He's Still YOUNG Enough to Compete @ the 1 Thing he Excels N...It's NOT like Floyd is Gonna Become a Commentator or a Successful Businessman N Some Other Area...He's a BOXER...Soooon Enough, he'll TRY Other Shit, FAIL MISERABLY & Come Back to Boxing, 2 Soooothe his DAMAGED Ego (Similar to When Michael Jordan FLOPPED when he Tried to Play Pro Baseball)....

    3. Because of REED's 2nd Point, Floyd WON'T Make NEARLY the Amount of Money that he Can FIGHTING...& That'll B the BIGGEST Factor N him RETURNING to Boxing...

Honestly, REED DOUBTS if Floyd Makes it to the END of 2008 B 4 "Returning" to Boxing...& REED Still EXPECTS Floyd-DeLa II to Happen, N September...

Again, REED is UNsure of Floyd's MOTIVATION for Doing this, but Dude is Making it More & MORE Difficult to B a FAN of his...If he just Fought Miguel Cotto THIS YEAR, REED would Actually SUPPORT Floyd's Retirement Talk...

I agree with this and even wrote awhile back that I thought Floyd needed to take a break from the sport for awhile because I felt he was fighting so long at such a high level that he would possibly suffer a loss soon. I felt a lack of training hard because he was burned out would be the cause. Therefore I actually think the break will do him good as long as he doesn't stay gone for too long. He should stay away from all fighting other than as a spectator and just have a nice long vacation.

A lot of people think this is bullshit but I bet he just couldn't get up to train for Oscar no matter how much money was on the table. When you're burned out you're burned out.

Personnally, I hope it's bullshit. Boxing can't afford to lose its top fighter IMHO. Yeah, Floyd's little gimmick stall the WW division, but he brings a lot of interest to the sport, and I would hate it if he retired without facing at least the top WW.

You've got to admit, even as a Floyd fan, it's all getting a bit silly, pathetic, and annoying.

I acknowledge how good Floyd is, but personally I think he is one of the least likeable top fighters ever.

I never thought I'd see the day, but the Floyd of today has actually become more disliked and criticized than the Roy of 6 years ago!

I'm thinking it's a publicity stunt or a negotiating ploy.

Maybe Floyd really is burned out and drained, but will he stay retired?

No. Besides the fact that he's an attention whore who will miss the limelight, where else is he going to make the sort of money he does in the ring?

He was saying he's become bored with boxing. Well, how bored is he gonna be not doing something he's been doing his whole life?

Great talent, who, despite having the oportunities around him, unfortunately for fans of boxing, lacked the will/heart to attempt to be a truly great fighter.
Maybe it's B.S, but seeing as though after another fight with old DLH, he really has very few excuses left for not fighting Cotto, Wlliams, Margarito, or even Mosley. (although he'll probably rematch Hatton), it could be true.
Oh well, unless he fights the best available, (which he won't), I'm not interested in watching him anyway.

Chicken sh*t retired just when the landscape was getting interesting. Ducking Margarito for years, and avoiding any potential threat. What a farce. Cotto would f*ck his ass up and Pretty Bitch knows it too. Retire with your sh*tty little joke record Floyd. LOL!

Burned out from what? Bored from what? He's scared sh*tless of losing and he knows he's gonna lose if he steps up to guys who don't sh*t themselves at seeing his tip tap crap. What a bitch. Nobody will remember him in 10 years. P4P best my ass!

everyone knows he is the best fighter in a long time but some haters like to hate..

IMO he'll be back late next year and fight Cotto after Cotto beats Williamsdlo

Floyd will dominate Cotto and retire for good going down as one of the GOAT

Most boring piece of f*cking crap ever. Tip tap sh*t, zero charisma joke. Ducked any real challenger for years, handpicking jokes and losers, now retires because there's guys like Cotto out there who'll ruin his life.
He'll never be anywhere neat GOAT.

The time for Floyd to fight Cotto is NOW! Not a year from now! And even now its not a guaranteed win for Floyd. Your on crack if you think Floyd can retire a year, then come back and dominate Cotto. Nut huggery at its saddest.

If Floyd was smart, he'd fight Cotto as soon as Cotto gets by Margarito and especially if that fight is a war.

I personally think he's done fighting.

I think he's done fighting for AWHILE. Maybe 2 years or so. I think he'll come-back one day, when he misses the money and attention. By then its doubtful he'll be the same fighter. He's already 31.

For ALL the hate Floyd is getting right now though, I still for the most part enjoyed his career. He & Roy were the two most talented fighters of this generation, and guys as gifted as him dont just come around everyday.

But at this point, I think he knows that Cotto is too young, and strong for him, or else he'd fight him.
