Ponce always throws haymakers... nothing new... it's the only way he knows how to punch

De Leon gets hit a lot by left hooks for a south paw. His right hand just kind of hangs in the air.

Ponce comes out with the left...Mares trying to get back in the swing of things...bouncing on his toes..Ponce keeping his left glove glue to his chin...left by Ponce, counter left by Mares. Left uppercut by Ponce, Mares trying to get in range..rights by Mares pushing/clinching Ponce on the ropes, Jab/left by Ponce,Mares falls into Ponce...

Left hand by Ponce, Ponce getting to happy with the left hand..missed it 2-3 times after throwing it back to back to back...Right hand to the body and head by mares, again to the body.

Ponce won that round imo...

 

I think De Leon is going to get knocked out, he's taking a bit too much damage this early in the fight. Mares is fighting aggressively as well.

 

I was thinking the same thing

Normally, in order for it to work, the righty has to get that left foot to the outside of the southpaw's right foot, move a little to get it lined up and then you drop the hammer (think EMM's dissection of Marvin Johnson) ... but it is hard to do... Mares is landing it without needing to make much of an adjustment

 

Round 6

jabs by Ponce...Right/left by Mares, Mares jump in with a right to the head and lands left/right to body and pulls out. Ponce aiming..aiming..aiming the left but Mares keeps moving away from it. Right/left to the body by Mares, Right lead by Mares, another follow with a left hook.

Jab/right by Mares, Ponce missing with the left, but lands a right hook in close, right to the body by Ponce, Naldy warns him about punch to the kidney's. Right to the body by Mares...left to the body by Ponce, slapping left by Ponce, counter left hook by Mares...

 

De Leon won that last round.

 

Ponce really needs Mares to lead to do anything

Right uppercut off the clinch by Ponce...HARD LEFT by PONCE...Mares look funny for a second..but I guess not...Hard right by Mares, Jab/right by Mares, again...Left by Ponce, to the head and body....

For such a "good boxer" Mares is sure getting clipped by a lot of telegraphed punches.

Right/left/right/left all over the place by Ponce NOTHING landed clean. Right hand by Mares getting inside of Ponce arms. Left by Ponce, Right/left by Mares...Right/left to the head by Ponce arm punches though.

Jab/left by Ponce following Mares. Feints by Mares, Ponce eating them. Right hook/left hand by Ponce, Left hook by Mares, right to the body by Ponce, left by Ponce, Ponce LOADING up with the left and Mares looking to counter and Pacquiao him(that is what his corner is screaming at him)...Jab/right/right by Mares...

Yep. Ponce is a bit better than he looks. He thinks about what he's doing in there, and though he can sometimes look sloppy, sometimes his left hand is fast and precise.
