I agree with much of your post, including the Pac/Bruce analogy etc. However I think even in relation to each other, I honestly don't think Ortiz is a big, strong welterweight.

Don't forget this is literally his second fight at 147, and though he does look surprisingly solid at the weight, he wasn't exactly considered huge at 140.

Honestly looking at them both side by side the difference in size is negligible IMHO.

Ortiz is a bit chunkier, but softer looking.

I almost guarantee you Floyd will match Ortiz for strength.

While Floyd is undeniably on the small side at WW, I think he has grown into a true welterweight, albeit a slightly undersized one.

I thought Mosley would have a significant size advantage as Mosley actually looks fairly solid at 147, yet they looked exactly the same size.

Oscar looked significantly bigger than Floyd, the likes of Oscar and Tito are big strong welters for sure, nevermind the likes of Plasterito, Tall Paul etc.

Ortiz looks bigger than expected at the weight, that's undeniable, but I still think they're more or less the same size.

Incidentally I think both Cotto and Clottey are on the small side for welterweights. In both their fights with Pacquiao, they were bigger men for sure but didn't dwarf him, compare that to Manny's fight with cement boy.

I'm still a fan of him and will always root for him. I don't care much about his off-the ring persona. He's a truly dedicated fighter who trains hard and keeps himself clean. That's enough for me.

My brother in law is going to order this, $25 bucks is all I have to pay. A few more people are coming and paying there share as well. This is the only way that I would have watched it live. There is no way this is worth the price tag of 70 "HD" bucks. Anyone else ordering?

It's funny how that works... everybody in the money chain loses perspective and wants a bigger cut. It happens all the time. It often starts with the fighter thinking they are worth more than they are, and so few fights get made. When they do, the fighters want a bigger purse.

Promoters are always busy extracting every damn penny they can from everyone they can, and if they can stiff someone they will. HBO PPV wants their cut, other distributors & broadcasters get their cuts, the site gets their fee, ticket sales are expected and everybody gets a piece, blah, blah, blah.

But yet... as these people expect more and more money for the same (or worse) services, the average Joe worldwide (not just in the USA) has LESS cash to burn on PPV's that are of lower and lower quality each time out.

So they keep raising the price on this shit... it's now what, $59.99 for SD and $69.99 for HD? As if someone already PAYING MORE for HD should be made to PAY MORE just to use it?

And what happens? Instead of making more money, they have raised their price point far past the optimal position, and because of the punitively high cost, people either don't watch, go to watch somewhere where they don't have to pay, or use an Internet stream and see it for free. I can tell you right now, if this was $29.99 as an HD PPV, I would buy it and save myself the trouble of finding a stream.

But since that is not the case, I went out and bookmarked a bunch of streams this afternoon... and lo and behold.... I have NEVER seen so many people streaming a damn fight since Pac fought Cotto. Everyone and their brother is streaming this baby, I found 22 different available streams in about 10 minutes. Usually a percentage get shut down, so I like to have a few backups.

But I can see what happens as the quality goes down & price goes up. People turn to alternatives and so less money is made, ultimately. Honestly, does it really take a genius to figure out which is better for not only the revenue, but for the sport (and thus future revenue) - sell X PPV's at the absurd price, or sell 3 times as many PPVs at half that price?

Instead of inviting fans in & creating more exposure, boxing has consistently gone the route of a smaller and smaller fan base, being squeezed for more and more money each time out. It is self-destructing.

Exactly but if you'd hear their bullshit version they'd say they have to raise prices because of streams.

Best way to enjoy this is by getting a few buddies to pay 20 bucks a pop. 3 friends will pay the PPV almost in full.

I know plenty of people here HATE Roberto Garcia and the pupils ...but WHY? Other than making fun of Freddie Roach....and training the cheater Margarito....what other terrible thing has he done????

I know Danny Garcia recently said brother Robert needs to keep his mouth shut...and that he doesn't like the bad things he is doing....

I'm lucky there. My family loves boxing and we always pitch in. This PPV will end up costing my brother in law 15 bucks.

    Today's weights:

    Ortiz- 164
    Floyd- 150

Again meaningless. Margarito had the same weight advantage and got severely whooped by Pacquaio.

Floyd is extremely INTELLIGENT. He'll go on the inside when it is APPROPRIATE for him to do so and when Cortez ALLOWS any infighting at all(Hatton fight). He'll bomb him with his precise counters.

I hope the KID doesn't get hurt too bad.
